Bad Drivers
« on: June 02, 2010, 10:13:46 AM »
Texas used to have the "Drive Friendly" slogan.
I spent a week in Dallas a few years ago..and I have to say...Dallas had the most courteous drivers I've ever encountered.

IF this ever happens again...I won't think twice about seeing the manager.  I wasn't in a confrontational mood that day.

Yup. I grew up driving in Dallas traffic, so it really doesn't get to me with how bad it's gotten. But my girlfriend grew up on the Ft. Worth side of the Metroplex and driving in Dallas scares the hell out of her. If she has to go to Dallas, she always asks me to drive if I'm available.

I "hear" it is pretty bad, but I grew up in it as well, so I feel pretty accustomed to it.  With that being said, I will say that it will be a cold night in hell before I drive on 635.

635 has never really bothered me since I grew up in Mesquite and had to use it pretty much any time I wanted to go somewhere. 35E going south on the other hand... Where it merges with Loop 12 and again at 183 makes me go white knuckle.

I have to say all those overpasses did scare the hell out of me...Some were uncomfortably high and I had to just keep my eyes on the read and knock out my peripheral vision.  If I looked down...I probably would have freaked.  I'm afraid of heights.  I went there to look at properties for investments....all the highway driving and overpasses killed it for me.

I lived in the Metroplex for 12 years. I miss those drivers compared to the insane jackholes here in D.C.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

I used to ride my bicycle on 635. Of course there was no traffic as it was just being built. I lived in Garland, about a mile from the highway. Northwest Hwy is now in what was once my back yard. When I learned to drive, I was taught that Dallas traffic was unforgiving. One didn't DARE enter the freeway (usually 75 N for me, aka North Central Expressway) unless they were doing the freeway speeds. If they were going too slow, they'd be run over and it would be their fault. NOWADAYS, drivers attempt to get on the freeway at 40 mph or so and don't even think once about yielding. I think that people have forgotten what yield signs and stop signs actually mean.

Been there, done that. I wish that it were the same in Dallas area. Now, we have a bunch of ball-less drivers that shouldn't even be driving on the local city streets. I guess that there's too many damned Yankees that have moved here and screwed everything up.

It was all over the radio this morning.  Seems she got out of the car when it landed, and made a phone call on her cell, as the car exploded.

She, apparantly, had been drinking.

We all complain about traffic on the interstate here, because I75 comes into I40. from the south,  on the far west part of the county, but you have to go almost half way across the county to get to I75N. It is often a cluster....

Then I drove on the 5 in San Diego and Seattle when son was stationed out there. I can't imagine driving on that thing every day let alone twice a day.... :o  :o :o
