Woman Hit by Car Sues Google Over Directions
« on: June 01, 2010, 05:42:42 PM »
Quote
Los Angeles native Lauren Rosenberg was in Park City, Utah, on January 19, 2009. She wanted to travel from Point A to Point B and she chose to walk.

Consulting Google Maps on her BlackBerry, she was given a walking route and she followed the directions. Those walking directions included walking on a highway that has no sidewalks. Instead of seeking an alternate route, Rosenberg walked in the middle of the highway.

She was hit by a car and is suing Google for medical expenses amounting to $100,000 and for punitive damages. Rosenberg is also suing the driver who hit her.

Quoting the complaint: "At all times herein mentioned, Plaintiff Lauren Rosenberg was and is a competent adult."

I think that last statement is very questionable.

I hope she doesn't get anything for this.  Good grief.  Walk down the middle of a highway.  Idiot.

Los Angeles native.  Explains it all.

Just because your GPS tells you to do something, it doesn't mean you do it.  Mine even has a warning that says to obey all traffic signs/signals/laws of the road.  Those things are not 100% accurate.

The idiot deserved to get hit.

A few years ago, I was in Georgia, and decided to drive into Tennessee to see Ruby Falls.  I only had the house for maybe 6 months and only visited on weekends, once a month, so I was clueless when it came to getting around.  I got directions off of Yahoo and went on my way...the directions were so F'ed up that we were lost within 30 minutes.  I eventually got directions from a local at a gas station and his directions were SO MUCH EASIER.

After that, I decided not to rely on computer directions.

Well, she's stupid enough to walk down the middle of a road, she's stupid enough to believe she'd win a lawsuit.

Personally, I'd like to knock the shit out of the lawyer that convinced her she had a case and only sees the dollar signs.

This story kind of reminds me of an episode on The Office.

Are there any fans out there?

If so, it's the episode where Michael Scott gets GPS in his car and ends up driving his car into the lake because his car told him to do it.

There really are a lot of stories out there about people doing stupid things because the gps said to.  I think if you do these things your name should go in a register and your picture be put up at the poll booth so you can't vote ..... ever.

12 of her peers....it's a sure thing.
