Gang, I saw this over at RedState today, and I was struck with several things about it.  First, I wasn't smart enough to put all of these things together (yeah, that's me in the comments section).  Second, the sheer simplicity of it all.  Bill Clinton is not stupid, the Lewinsky affair notwithstanding.

"Why did the White House let this whole Sestak affair become such a large scandal?”  That is the million dollar question that I’ve heard on the lips of every major pundit on Fox News–from Charles Krauthammer, to Megyn Kelly, to Jaun Williams (not to mention, Redstate’s Moe Lane as well–see his comment in the diary that I linked to).  In other words, why didn’t the Obama Administration immediately leap out in front of this story months ago and smack down Pennsylvania Congressman Joe Sestak, by calmly explaining that he was offered a particular job that he was highly qualified for (like for instance, Undersecretary of the Navy or some position in the Department of Homeland Security or Defense)–and that there is “nothing to see here”?  And then, they could have further stated that, “Hey, the Congressman is mistaken.  We offered him this job, because he was the one most qualified for it, and we needed the position filled–not because we were trying to bribe him.”  At most, this would have been a two day story because it would have been a “he said-she said”–not to mention, it would have been extremely difficult to prove.  Furthermore, politicians have been engaging in this type of quid pro quo since the time of the Caesars, so none of this is really very shocking to anyone (at the very worst, it undercuts Obama’s whole message of “not doing politics as usual”, but I think that train left the station a while ago).  So, what gives?

Well, a couple of days ago, I read a fascinating column in The Washington Post that compared Bill Clinton to Michael Clayton, and referred to him as Obama’s “Mr. Fix-it”.  Now, for those of you who don’t get this analogy, “Michael Clayton” was an excellent movie (see the trailer below) about a slightly shady guy who cleaned up messes for a law firm–he was their roving, perpetually on-call “Mr. Fix-it”.  Oh, and in my opinion, “Michale Clayton” has one of the top ten best lines in recent movie history when the title character (brilliantly played by George Clooney) says to the evil, murdering trial lawyer (played perfectly by Tilda Swinton)—

“I’m not the guy that you kill, I’m the guy that you buy!”

….But, I digress .

Now, I think that The Washington Post was more right about Bill Clinton being “Michael Clayton” than they might ever know.  What do I mean by that?  Well, those of you who have seen the movie (spoiler alert for those of you who have not) might remember that, in the end, Michael Clayton did the right thing and turned on the chemical company hired by his law firm that had manufactured a deadly weedkiller.  In other words, I think that Bill Clinton “Michael Claytoned” (yes, I’ve now created a new verb) the Obama Administration, and was secretly helping Joe Sestak behind their back.  Yes, I know that it’s a juicy story, but you’re worried that it might be largely based on conjecture.  Well, you’re in luck, because I happen to deplore stories based strictly on conjecture.  So, if you will bear with me, I will start of by bombarding you with a plethora of facts to back up my hunch.

Being the vindictive beyotch that I am (yes, I know that it’s a bad quality and I’m working on it–you all can pray for me if you’d like), if I was put in the exact same position that Bill Clinton was put in, I would smile sweetly and bat my eyes at Rahm Emanuel, tell him that I would love to help him using my best Southern belle drawl, and then would proceed to kneecap that SOB by giving my buddy the heads up and telling him to run anyway. (I believe that revenge is a dish best served cold–and, I bet that Bill Clinton does as well.)

Heh. I like her.

I definitely wouldn't count either Clinton out given their propensity for triangulation.

I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop - that other shoe will be Hillary, when she resigns from her position in the Obama administration shortly after January 2011.

Then it will be obvious that Bubba was using his clout to assist friends of the Clinton's, not Obama.

I have always thought it rather suspicious that both Bill and Hillary have been so willing to be at Obama's beck and call. Regardless of political party affiliation.

Neither have ever struck me as willing to play "second fiddle" and certainly not to Obama as he so handily booted Hillary right out of the presidential nomination.

James Carville has never appeared - to me, at least - much of a fan of Obama. The last week when he was so outspoken against Obama regarding the oil spill.....made me just go hmmmmmm.....

Carville has always been a very ardent supporter of both Clintons......haven't seen him to be so regarding Obama.
While he hasn't made any waves against Obama....he certainly hasn't been his cheerleader either.

I never thought that our military should place him under house arrest and  do the job HE refuses to do.

   White Guilt, give me a break.----- My ancestors were french Arcadian and sold as slaves in the block in Boston and Philadelphia.  Some were sent to the Islands where the died cutting sugar cane and some escaped to become part of the Cajun community of New Orleans.

 One of my ancestors went into the Revolutionary War and gained their freedom.

I have no White guilt, the Brit side of the family owned no slaves in fact did take in some black folk that helped in their survival as fisherman.

Give me a break, Why would I have white guilt in any way when back way back then the comunity of my ancetors placed their lives on the line to help,  and hide the people that needed it.?

Actually I politically incorect, would love to find just one decendent of the people we risked our lives to protect to  come to me and thank me and family for the blood we shed to keep these ancestors of them people free.

We have Civil war hollidays, where are the thousands of born from slaves on their knees thanking us for the horror the North faced to set them free.

So you are now saying you cast your vote regardless of color, not because he was a "Clean, articulate, black man"?  That what you peddling now??  Cast your vote for a virtual unknown with no real record or experience just to shake things up and would have done so if he were lilly white?  See a "D" pull the lever?   Good one Vesta, good one. There were plenty of folk raising the storm flag in our previous home.  Now you get to say sorry kids, granny just wanted to shake up the system.    or The shop steward lied to me.



BTW it was one of my 6G ancestors(who first came over as an indentured servant) who helped kick a little Arcadian ass before the Revolution. ( First battle of Fortress Louisbourg ).  He and sons served in the Revolution; 3G in the Civil War, left for dead on the battle field, lived to 90+, ran away to join at 16.  Oh and on the other side the folk were Huguenots who first settled in Nova Scotia before coming to Maine. Genealogy is great but this is not Ancestry dot com, ok?

Though I'm not directing this toward Vesta, I wanted to write this again..

I fully suspect by the end of Obama's Presidency, nobody is going to know how he became President in the first place, because virtually nobody will ever admit voting for him.

Well that just shows how liberal I was until my Son sat me down and debated me --
When I had been brainwashed for almost 50 years he had his job cut out for him.

First he questioned why I considered myself a Liberal when I was Antiabortion, pro death Penalty.  How could I believe I was a Liberal when I had never voted for a Democrat.?  How could I be a liberal as I had FOX NEWS 24/7 on the kitchen TV.?

He pointed out that I was Liberal only when it came to my personal interests.  He was right, I saw the hypocrisy of my thinking and needed to take another look at when, where and why I began to think this way.

He also questioned the changes I had gone through as I grew older. Growing up with all the political scandals and even the small town corruption I have run into has been twisting and turning my ideas.

It is difficult to ignore some of my Liberal ways, but that Son of mine who is much better educated and a dyed in the world  Conservative has opened the door for me and I am trying to walk in, with baby steps.

Then there are you guys that pull me up, and make me think.-----Thank You.
