AUSTIN (KXAN) - The city council’s decision to boycott travel to Arizona is resulting in organizations and individuals boycotting the city of Austin in protest.

A growing number of political organizations, including the Odessa and Burleson Tea Parties, have decided not to do business with the city of Austin until the council resends the Arizona boycott they passed a few weeks ago.

“We will try to minimize what the city gets from our stay there,” said Hood county Republican Party Chairman Randy Shelton. “We will not stay in hotels inside the city of Austin and we will not ride the city transit.”

Shelton says they will continue to support Austin businesses but try to prevent any dollars from going towards city revenue. Other boycotts are more extreme.

A search online showed many more individuals vowing not to do business in Austin, including one poster who says they will cancel hotel reservations and a Leander resident who says they will skip having lunch inside Austin city limits.

Having lived in Austin, I can tell you there is the city of Austin and then there is the rest of Texas and they are miles apart.  When we lived there the city council passed a law that gays could put their live in lovers on their city funded health insurance.  That led to millions in claims for aids etc. and the public did not like it.  Apparently they have a means where they can have a referendum and put it to a popular vote to rescind the law.  Well you can imagine what that turned into, you would have thought you were in San Francisco for the gay protests etc.  Well the day came for the vote and the referendum passed by a margin of 2-1 to rescind the law.   

Seems the politicians in the city were much like the current administration, they did what the hell they wanted regardless of what the majority of the taxpayers paying thier salaries wanted. 

Texas is not a state to pull the crap they did, most of the folks I know would be heavily in favor of the AZ law.

Austin is to TX what skin cancer is to your favorite swimsuit model.... Unfortunately Gov Perry isn't exactly fond (publicly at least) of the AZ bill.

Perry is one of those that should be voted out of office. That said, our choices here in Texas for Governor are him and a Democrat. Nobody else has come to the forefront. Perry is all for the Trans-Texas corridor that would bring an influx of illegal aliens, the state, just a year ago or so was running a budget surplus and now is looking at an $18 BILLION deficit. Then, there's Perry's lavish lifestyle, funded on the taxpayer's dime. Yes, Perry is speaking out against the AZ bill and continues to allow sanctuary cities (a violation of law, IMO) to exist here. He's DEFINITELY not MY choice for Governor. I'm really getting tired of having to choose between "bad" and "worst".
