I love the unwitting understatements at the beginning of the video.

I grew up in Illinois and Iowa....I have been afraid of thunderstorms for as long as I can remember.  :(

I love thunderstorms.  Don't like driving in them so much, but I love sitting on my porch watching them.

I know a lot of people that do.

I pace the house, have the tv on, and basically flip out. Runnin' Buddy and I were at Home Depot on Sunday, when it got really dark, started thundering and lightning. We were in different parts of the store, and I was texting her every couple of minutes....it's getting darker outside, how much longer are you going to be? She laughed at me... :bawl: I wouldn't leave the store until it was over.

What's really ridiculous is that it's the thunder that bothers me the most. M keeps telling me it's the lightning I'm supposed to be concerned with...not the thunder. Yeah. Right.

My aunt was like that. When she was younger, she was ironing during a storm and lightning hit and came through the cord!!

I don't turn off lights or unplug stuff...I totally freak when we lose tv connection, because then I can't tell what/where the storm is doing. We have lots of tall trees on 3 sides and their swaying makes me so uneasy. We had 4 trees fall last year, and 2 hit the house. The house is down in a "hollow" and so if we hear thunder, it's really bad out, because it seems to roll up across the top of hills, instead of coming downward.

I got stuck driving from Hendersonville to Brentwood in that mess.  My neck and hands were sore by the time I got home... talk about some white-knuckle driving.

Sure they get tornadoes in MN. I remember back a few years ago as a severe storm passed over, sitting out on my deck watching the rotation in the clouds. I said to myself that there were tornadoes in those clouds. I was right. One hit, not a mile away,  in the rural area of Big Lake, MN. There was one in Anoka that I watched from the 494 bridge between Newport & W St Paul back in 1986/ 87(?). Tornadoes in MN aren't typically as bad as the ones in Kansas/ Oklahoma or Texas.

I guess that Jinx forgot about the tornado(es) that hit Monticello, MN. People were without power for a month because it tore up major distribution lines. I THINK that was in 1998.

It's really rare that we even get a tornado watch here.  I have been through 2 hurricanes that directly hit south Jersey in '73 and '85 but that's nothing compared to the southeast coast.  We usually just end up with the rain after they've hit and bounced up the coast . . .

Every area of the country has their disadvantages. On the West Coast, it's Earthquakes and Volcanoes. The East & Gulf Coasts has their hurricanes and NorEasters, The "flyover" country has tornadoes and FREEZING winters.  Sacrifices must be made. It all depends on what one would rather deal with. I remember the winters of 77( Jan/ Feb) & 78 (Feb/ Mar)  when Norfolk, Va got hit with a BUNCH of snow.

Personally I prefer Hurricanes.  You can plan for them at least a few days in advance.

+1 there.
I prefer having to deal with the weather as opposed to those unexpected ground movements or volcanic explosions. You can keep that snow stuff too, I've done my time in it enough to know I do not like it.

But, with snow, you can always put more clothes on.  There's a practical--and legal--limit to just how many clothes one can take off when it's hot and sticky.
