It's not a bad movie. It's just a retelling of other stories in a new setting. I did like the batter scenes. Worth the watch- but don't expect many suprises.

You want to watch a great film in the sci-fi range, here are two:

Well, as for originality....

It was not only moonbattish, it was simplistic and implausible. Read my take on the movie. http://libertyfic.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=restricted&action=display&thread=235

I would recommend Iron Man 2 as far as movies go. One of those few movies where a capitalist is a good guy. In fact, a barely disguised Arlen Spector gets told off by Mr. Stark early in the film.

A good review of it is here: http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/iron-man-2-a-love-letter-to-ronald-reagan/

The first one wasn't so hot. It was an anti-military message.

Thanks I really do not think i want to watch it. Hubby did last night I did peek in once to see graphics looked good. I just do not think I like the story line. Your review confirmed  it for me, although maybe some day?  FGL had seen that before thanks also for reminding me. Cameron is a buffoon to say the least. I did like most of his other films, this time he went to PC , I cannot stand when Hollywood types dis us. He hates this country and if it were not for this country he would be nobody!

I am looking forward to Iron Man 2. Although I read a review not so good? I will have to see if I come across that review. It was a bit ago so?

Cameron's film Aliens had at least one standard hollywood trope (evil corporation) but the Marines were not portrayed in such a hostile light as they were in Avatar, which made it enjoyable if one could ignore said tropes. Avatar went way off the deep end with the tree hugging crap.

He even sidestepped his usual attention to physical plausibility with Pandora itself to get his message across. Gas giants produce huge tidal forces and a moon that close to a gas giant would have been a toxic, volcanic hell due to tidal heating. Not to mention Pandora would have been tidally locked that close; one side would have always faced the planet like the Moon does with Earth, and that is not even counting radiation belts, but I digress.

If a plot like that went into detail on the repercussions of giving primitive peoples technology (massive escalation of the aliens' internal violence, especially if technology was given to the wrong faction, like a communistic faction) it might be interesting. Better than Avatar for sure! lol

thats true. hhmm.

What did you guys think of the idiotic 2012??

The most realistic part is the government trying to save themselves and their buddies.

At the end of the movie I was thinking there is no way these people were going to be able to re-establish civilization. None of those people were going to be able to grow food or do any of the building blocks. When their supplies ran out, it would all be over.

I never saw 2012. I read about the movie, specifically how neutrinos cause the Earth's core to heat up and start off a chain of disasters. Neutrinos are nearly massless particles that almost never interact with matter and go straight through the Earth and every other gas, liquid and solid. It was almost as bad as The Core in terms of implausibility.

I am sure it was something about "global warming" causing the neutrino's to act different....  :rotf:

I thought it was a great movie.  Gotta be able to watch these flicks without injecting politics into it.  I remember when Superman Returns came out, everyone was ripshit pissed about some things they heard on the internet.  Turns out it was a great frikken movie.

We laugh at the DUmmies all the time for being unable to seperate their private lives from politics, so you gotta make sure you can do it as well.

So?  I heard everything he said about it before hand.  Then I sat through the entire movie, and did not have a SINGLE thought about politics the entire time.  I just enjoyed a good movie for being a good movie.
