That dude I can't remember is one of my top 10 faves! I remember when he did the big summer movie sequel with the actor whose name is just on the tip of my tongue. I think he married the perky sports tv chick. I used to love it when he did that thing.
Thank you, thank you Godot for the reminder that we as American have lost through PC the ability to laugh at ourselves and others for our unique to others life styles.
We are becoming so self centered, so quick to take offence when people different from us either point out our differences or compair them to our own.
When it really gets me is when my Muslim neighbors call the police because I am having a BBQ with ribs and the wind is blowing in their direction and they can SMELL pork cooking and it is causing them discomfort. When they BBQ a goat and the smell is on the wind in my direction, I am told to have tolerance as this is their food------ For me to cook Pork outside becomes a public nuance but they the neighbors can roast dirty baby diapers over an open flame and call it tradition and part of their life style.
Sorry I digress from the subject, but I find that after working all these years with people from other worlds on this planet that the most rational are those that can see the humor of life, can except the differences in ourselves and others without going bat crap and living a life of discomfort around people that are a bit different.
I miss the days of NO PC, the days when ordinary people could voice an openion and not be placed in jail for hate speech.
It did not destroy my life when people made French Canadian jokes not knowing I had a dearly beloved grandpa who was of that ilk. Matter of fact I could see the humor and laughed myself.
A short side--- My Fathers Dad was old English, one day he mentioned to me that the Franchises were bulldozing the trees to build camps on the lake he had a camp on. He went on to say that the Franchises had no care for the environment.
My Franchise grandpa had 40 acres of woods and would never do such a thing. I spoke up and reminded him that that he was putting down my beloved Pep'er.
That poor man was stricken when he realised what he had said to me, never again did he joke about the French around me.---However my Dad, he would convulse me with laughter at some of the antics of the Franchise at the ship yard that he worked with.
We have lost the ability to except how others look at us and laugh because of it.
We have lost the ability to feel at ease with others from different cultures to point out how we differ.
A 25 year old friend of mine is black from Lousenina, his name is Patrick. The first thing out of my mouth to him on meeting him was, how does a Louisianian black man get the name Patrick. He after all these years calls me the most honest person he has ever met.
