Gang, when this guy is hanging it up, you know that's it's gonna be bad for Democrats.

David Obey won't seek reelection

By DAVID ROGERS | 5/5/10 11:33 AM EDT
Updated: 5/5/10 12:17 PM EDT

In a major blow to Democrats, House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey has told close associates that he will not seek reelection. An announcement of his plans is expected as early as Wednesday.

The Wisconsin Democrat faces tough poll numbers at home, but until Tuesday night his staff had insisted he was running aggressively and had hired campaign staff.  But a person close to him confirmed the decision to POLITICO Wednesday and said Obey was preparing to make a statement.

A news conference has been called at 1 p.m., and Obey staff indicated he would announce his plans then.

Elected in 1969, the liberal is a major institutional figure who played a leading role in the anti-war and reform movement of the House in the 1970’s.  As the Appropriations chairman, he has been a close ally to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) who came up through the same panel before moving into the leadership.  And his departure follows on the death of Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) this winter, a second Pelosi ally and veteran of the powerful committee. [/quote]

Hey Stretch, see the writing on the wall?    :evillaugh:
“The national budget must be balanced. The public debt must be reduced; the arrogance of the authorities must be moderated and controlled. Payments to foreign governments must be reduced, if the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”

Here are what his constituents told him at Gradegov.com:

I gave you a grade of F.  It's not like I haven't been emailing you, but your tax and spend policies on the bogus cap and trade and the fatally flawed health care reform, are not just votes, but you purposefully stearing the nation...

I gave you a grade of F because you don't represent me, only your liberal views. As we are now seeing, no one has damaged the United States more than you liberals. I hope you are defeated in 2010.10

This makes me think 2 things;

1.)  What were these democratics promised to get them to vote for the shit they voted for then 'hang it up'?

2.)  These people are leaving because the democratics who come to replace them will be able to run a campaign saying "I didn't vote for it and wouldn't have voted for it.  Now we'll just have to make the best of what they put in place before I got there"

Many of these Rats are lawyers and are quite well off financially. Otherwise, a large firm will pay them well to peddle their influence.

Secondly, most liberals have a yellow streak running down their back. Being defeated would be a hard pill for these creeps to swallow. It will make it easier for the Repub to take that seat now that he is out of the picture.

I heard somewhere they don't get as much from the goodie bag if they are defeated in re-election.

I heard his speech today.  One of the most partisan, mean-spirited, and bitter goodbyes I have ever heard.

Just another professional politician who has stuffed enough money away to live comfortably in retirement, and the hell with the rest of us. Good riddance to bad rubbish. Now if we could just get the other lemmings to leap off the cliff with him.....
