Report: New N.Y. Governor, Wife Admits Affair

Monday, March 17, 2008

AP

NEW YORK  —  Gov. David Paterson, who took over New York state's top job after Eliot Spitzer resigned amid a prostitution scandal, has admitted he and his wife Michelle had affairs during a rough patch in their marriage several years ago, a newspaper reported.

Paterson told the Daily News that he maintained a relationship with another woman from 1999 until 2001. He and his wife eventually sought counseling and repaired their relationship.

The couple agreed to speak publicly about their marriage in response to rumors about Paterson's personal life that have been swirling in Albany since Spitzer resigned, the Daily News reported Monday on its Web site.

Oh FFS!!!

This is just more innoculation by the libtards. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that this kind of "voluntary leak" is in the DNC handbook.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

well, it's at least slightly refreshing that this is "standard adultery", as opposed to the multi-player/rent-a-babe version that his predecessor and counterpart from new jersey appear to have participated in.

ALBANY, N.Y. —  The state's new governor revealed Tuesday that he had affairs with several women, including a state employee. The confession came a day after he took over from former Gov. Eliot Spitzer, who was driven from office amid a prostitution scandal.

Gov. David Paterson said the affairs happened during a rough patch in his marriage, and that the employee did not work for him. He insisted he did not advance her career, and that no campaign or state money was spent on the affairs.

"I do not feel I have broken my commitment to the citizens of New York state," Paterson said at a news conference with his wife, Michelle Paige Paterson.

Paterson, a Harlem Democrat, admitted an affair in an interview with the New York Daily News on Monday after he was sworn in, but his comments Tuesday indicate the couple's fidelity problems went deeper than he first acknowledged. He is not having an affair now, he said.

The affair was several years ago. He admitted it to his wife, went into counseling and saved his marriage. Kudos to him and his wife for having the courage to work through their problems.

More so to being open with it from the very beginning.

Absolutely. The John Stewart Show did a bit on him being the first black gov and the first blind gov. It's hillarious.

March 19, 2008 -- ALBANY - An attractive Olympic gold-medalist says she had a close personal relationship with Gov. Paterson earlier this year - during which time she recorded a series of secret telephone conversations with him.

Track-and-field athlete Diane Dixon, of Brooklyn, also told The Post that she had received a private message yesterday morning from Paterson, asking if she was speaking with the media......

did they really write that?  "attractive"?  that seems odd from a number of angles.

When you think of some of the east european women athletes of the 1970s and 80s it is not entirely a redundant word.

it's not that;  I just recall feminists going insane not all that long ago with similar phraseology when it came to women.  "attractive" vs not attractive was sexist and judgmental (in the sense that it requires you to use your judgment), and both of those things are strictly forbidden.  not to mention the fact that the guy is legally blind, so "attractive" sort of loses some meaning in this particular context.
