It's not looking good for Bush/Cheney and the Republican Party.

...

In a letter sent last year to the Department of the Interior, BP objected to what it called "extensive, prescriptive regulations" proposed in new rules to toughen safety standards. "We believe industry's current safety and environmental statistics demonstrate that the voluntary programs&continue to be very successful."

That was one in a series of clashes between the industry and federal regulators that began during the Clinton administration. In 2000, the federal agency that oversaw oil rig safety issued a safety alert that called added layers of backup "an essential component of a deepwater drilling system." The agency said operators were expected to have multiple layers of protection to prevent a spill.

...

But according to aides to Sen. Bill Nelson, a Florida Democrat who has followed offshore drilling issues for years, the industry aggressively lobbied against an additional layer of protection known as an "acoustic system," saying it was too costly. In a March 2003 report, the agency reversed course, and said that layer of protection was no longer needed.

"There was a big debate under the Bush administration whether or not to require additional oil drilling safeguards but decided not to require any additional mandatory safeguards, believing the industry would be motivated to do it themselves," Carl Pope, Chairman of the Sierra Club told ABC News.

Ok let's pretend for a second that the DUmmy is right. Why didn't Obama fix this in the year and 1/2 that he was in office?

Imagine if Obama held secret meetings on health care oh wait he did that actually.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Cheney/Bush are directly responsible for this environment disaster everything those war criminals

touched they destroyed.

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2010/4/30/862414/-BP-Oil-Platform-Spill-Disaster-is-CHENEYS-Fault-UPDATED

Mike Papantonio, an environmental lawyer on the Ed Show just now: An 'acoustic switch' would have prevented this catastrophe - it's a failsafe that shuts the flow of oil off at the source - they cost only about half a million dollars each, and are required in off-shore drilling platforms in most of the world...except for the United States. This was one of the new deregulations devised by Dick Cheney during his secret meetings with the oil industry at the beginning of Bush's first term.

From what I read, the permit to drill came from the Obama Administration

And whatever deal for self-regulation were struck in the Bush WH could have just as easily been un-struck in the Obama WH. After all, the WH is not congress and congress is the only body that--theoretically--writes laws. Nothing stopped Obama from rolling back these supposedly heinous backroom deals except: A) Obama and B) they never existed except in lefty's feverish little imaginations.
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

Republicans, Halliburton 100% Responsible for Oil Disaster
Posted by BanTheGOP in Editorials & Other Articles

It was bound to happen, and my blood is absolutely boiling. The cast of characters are as predictable as the day is long, yet we let it happen. The Disaster in the Gulf has finally exposed our chickens, and now they've come home to roost.

Start with an incessant, orgiastic need for oil at cheap prices. Add a fragile environment to the mix. Enter the republicanist oil barons and backroom dealmakers to build monstrosities of environmental terror. Finally, ensure that corners are cut for safety reasons to insure more profits for the republican elite.

Yes, folks, Halliburton is mixed up in this. They are the primary culprit that their flaws in the cementing process caused this disaster.

HEADS MUST ROLL!!!

While the hypocrite republican bastards are screaming about the federal response, Obama is coolly dispatching authorities to the region. In addition, he's also sending legal professionals to fully assess the true damage of this horrendous event. There is only one solution:

1. Ban ALL DRILLING....PERIOD!! There is NO GOOD REASON for drilling, UNLESS you want to pad the pockets of greedy oil executives and, in extension, the republican party.

2. Force all oil companies to dismantle their existing rigs, at THEIR expense. Everywhere. NO EXCEPTIONS.

3. Criminalize all oil profiteering, including significant jail time, for the republicanist executives shamelessly profiteering from this destructive industry.

4. Bring Halliburton on the Senatorial carpet to explain how their negligence in operations caused the death of 11 people and, more significantly, destroyed much of the gulf for decades, including the probably extinction of several species and the irreversible damage to the local region. Dick Cheney should be on the hot seat, followed by a quick trip to the criminal courts for prosecution, conviction, sentencing, and incarceration.

This disaster has shown that our greed for oil, our disregard for the environment, and finally, our republicanist masturbatory desire for oil profits has exposed our dark side. Obama MUST take advantage of this unique opportunity to educate the populace and, more importantly, enact the overdue regulations that will stop drilling forever, and protect our fragile environment.
