http://www.myfoxdfw.com/dpp/news/042710-Illegal-Immigrant-Children-Join-Planned-Mega-MarchChildren of illegal immigrants will be among hundreds of thousands of protesters marching in Dallas on Saturday in a push for what they call comprehensive immigration reform. They said they want the federal government to help pave a path for them to citizenship and education.
The scheduled mega-march, which will end at Dallas City Hall, aims to urge Texas representatives in Congress to support immigration reform. In 2006 thousands of people gathered on the streets of Dallas for the same cause.
However, the students who plan to participate also have another goal -- to encourage Congress to pass the DREAM Act , which would give undocumented students a chance at higher education. The federal legislation has been proposed before but never made it to a vote.
"I believe that every high school student should have the opportunity to go to college, and that is what we are looking for," high school student Cristhian Dorantes said.
Older students are not the only ones who plan to protest. In fact, children in elementary school will also participate.
"It is a boundary line saying, 'You know what? We have had enough. We need actions,'" elementary school student Rodrigo Mendoza said. "And actions speak louder than words."
But not everyone shares the students' ambitions.
