Bill Clinton’s reentry into the political arena appears to have come at some cost to his legacy. New polling now suggests that Clinton’s involvement in the Democratic nomination battle between his wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton, and Barack Obama, has significantly tarnished the former president’s image.

A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll released Thursday found that more Americans view Bill Clinton negatively than positively, 45 to 42 percent. It marked the first time since January 2002 that a plurality of Americans disapproved of the former president. One month earlier, The Gallup Poll found that nearly as many Americans had an unfavorable as favorable view of Bill Clinton-for the first time in nearly five years.

Interesting, I wonder why this might be. The article suggests it was the Obama comments, but he'd previously been pretty Teflon coated it looks like he is becoming a liability for Hillary.

It might be more specific to resentment over the "racist" comments, but I doubt. I've heard the Obamatrons lambaste him in such thick generality that I suspect the real issue is lending any support to his spouse, whom they despise. How can I put it? They qualify criticisms by saying they've "always admired" him, but now (that the gloves are off in defense of the witch), he has somehow disappointed them. Echoes of the vilification she endured over standing by him.

it would appear that the Dems remember Bill Clinton fondly... until he starts to speak.

he wasnt all that liked the first go round.. he just got the most votes in a three way race.

I lived in Arkansas when he was Governor.  I still to this day cannot believe that man was president.

they must have short memories.  or perhaps selective memories.

when my first husband passed away in Greenville, Arkansas... Governor Bill Clinton signed a document of condolence to all of the wives of the National Guard guys who passed away in that plane. it should have been a historical document for our family.. something to be proud of.

but i didnt know who he was back in 1988... and after he became president, i tossed it.

i was so embarassed that that was our president..

Americans are frequently idiots (explain "Friends" or "Survivor").

Until bjc, American Presidents -- ALL THE WAY BACK TO WASHINGTON -- would end their terms and go quietly into private life, write their memoirs, work towards some cause they love and stay out of politics.

But bj was too good for that -- he became political the day after he left office.  And he emboldened the worst President in the modern era, jimmah, to think he could re-enter politics and then did so BEYOND WATER'S EDGE!!!

I am sure GWB will once again lend dignity to the office in his retirement -- but if either hussein or mrs. clinton get in, then we will see Mexican-style politics for quote some time.

i didnt throw it away on a whim either... i thought long and hard about it. David has been gone for 20 years this next June, and i just went thru his two boxes of stuff when we moved to a new house last year.

i decided that the piles of papers with his social security number on them needed to be discarded - nothing of use to our daughter in those papers, so no biggie.

the Clinton paper... it got burned in the backyard chiminea. i probably should have done some sort of ceremonial dance afterwards to ward off the bad juju ... :-)
