It is just another way to spend our tax money
HIMMMMMMMMM, By this thinking all carnivores from Wolves to Lions, Tigers and Bears should be dead.
Has anyone noticed that within the last 40 years or so for the first time in history, [that we know] our cats and dogs have out of no where been getting the same problems with their teeth as humans.??
Last year Hubby took $900.00 out of his personal savings to have all teeth pulled on a 15 year old dog due to the dog getting abscesses and much suffering.
I did a bit of research and found that for one thing CATS cannot taste sweet food. Dogs do and love it.
I began to wonder why dogs and cats from the past seldom had tooth problems. It has to be the food we are feeding them today that they did not eat in the past.
Pet food company's load their food with carbohydrates that are not but a very small part of the food a carnivore will eat in the wild. Dogs do not need corn or peas, carrots or grain to survive, they need meat and marrow from bones.
Cats eat birds and rodents that have tiny bones, sharp and they get their carbohydrates from the stomachs of their kill.
The act of chewing on a bone is instinctive for both cats and dogs, the bone itself cleans their teeth, scrapes off tarter and keeps the gums healthy. We are told not to feed our pets table food, good idea as the carbohydrates will cause a sugar substance to deposit on the teeth.
If you look at the list of ingredients in dog food you will find that over 3/4 of it is carobs with cooked meat.
Perhaps I am in error but after the experience with the cost and pain our dog went through, I have changed the diet of all the pets.
Beef soup bones for the dogs, after they have turned the bone into a dried out lump, into the pot and boiled to get the rest of the marrow out.
Really surprised me at the amount of fat that can come out of a dried out knuckle bone.
I found a bone that had sat under a tree for at least a year or so that my dogs had forgotten, hard as a rock. I brought it in and boiled it in water for an hour and the water had a skim of fat or marrow.
When ground beef, the cheapest kind or ground chicken, pork goes on sale, I stock up.
The pets are spoiled by the pet food they have eaten, but a day or two of no food and they gobble up the raw meat and will ignore the pet food.
My cats will in fact gnaw on bones when they are hungry, I have begun to ask the butchers at the supermarket to cuts the bones into medalions for the cats.
The results are no allergies or skin problems for the dogs, the cats are more alert and fewer Matt's in their hair.
Feeding is no problem, After boiling bones old or new, the juice is poured into a large bowl and more water added to the bones in the pot to be boiled again. After second boil, the juice is removed and frozen for future use.
Feeding time is the raw ground meat with 1/4 dried food added. For the cats, I boil chicken bones, they get the juice but not the bones. The bone beef Madelin's are soaked in the chicken broth and then removed by the cats themselves and crunched on with much joy.
Crazy way to feed pets, but when one has a human baby one feeds them food that they are meant to be fed. When one has a a lizard, one feeds them vegetables, a pet crock, meat, a fish, other fish. One does not feed a horse pork ribs, or a human hay.
