Arizona lawmakers pass bill to CRIMINALIZE illegal immigration

Arizona lawmakers on Monday approved one of the toughest illegal immigration laws in the United States.

The immigration bill now heads to Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, who has five days to sign it, veto it or do nothing and allow it to become law. Brewer said she'd be reviewing the legislation over the next several days, indicating that she will likely take the maximum time allowed to her before taking action.

Senate Bill 1070 would, among other things, make it a state crime to be in the country illegally and require local police to enforce federal-immigration laws. If the governor signs it, Arizona would be the first state to criminalize illegal immigrants...

Nearly 30 people gathered for a candlelight vigil in front of Brewer's Glendale home Sunday night in a bid to convince her to veto the bill. Dozens more carried signs opposing the bill in front of her office Monday morning. The protesters said the bill could increase racial profiling in Arizona...

U.S. Sen. John McCain threw his support toward the measure on Monday.

Jaw dropping.

8. This could backfire. If illegal immigration is criminalized, and

a person/company has hired them, they could be in just as much trouble.

Good.

42. Arizona already passed that law a couple years ago.

Quite a few Hispanics left the state at the time because they couldn't find work.

In other words it worked and saved taxpayers probably millions.

13. Lots of things are illegal.

Like, say for instance, starting an entire war based on lies and placing our troops wrongly in harms way (see Treason). But I haven't seen a state outlaw Bush yet.

I guess it depends on your priorities.

You can`t be a mole...just too damn stupid.

33. It won't survive a court challenge

It's unconstitutional on a number of grounds. then again the main purpose is to whip up political support among conservatives, who will duly deride the courts as being stuffed with 'activist judges' for sticking to the constitution.

Nearly 30? Was the hoard too great to get an accurate count? The counter had to take off his shoes and got to 20 and then ran out of digits.
Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

IIRC: A Texas law has been zotted on numerous incarnations because it was said to infringe on federal purview to set immigration policy.

I'm not saying I like it, I'm just saying that is what was rendered.

Kinda ironic though that courts can seem to find things that infringe of the fed's right but never any infringements of what has been relegated to persons or the several states.
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

Good point, MSB.

Hawkeye X has the permanent mindset of an 8 year old girl.  Anybody who's had a daughter recognizes this phase...little girl loves animals to pieces, and so announces that she wants to be a vet when she grows up.  Eventually the little girl grows up and makes her way in the world.  Not Hawkeye X.

I didn't say if it was found to be unconstitutional by some judge, I mean actually unconstitutional.

I wasn't content with wanting to be a vet.  I wanted to be a zoo veterinarian  :cheersmate:

Back on topic, I've heard discussion about challenging the law based on the fact that it is discriminatory to Hispanics.  Really, what it does as far as I understand, is give law enforcement the ability to request evidence of legal status if they have reason to believe that somebody is an illegal alien, ie, they are caught driving without a driver's license.

35% of all USA welfare cases are in Kalifornia.  Could be some kind of correlation.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.
