DUmmies Discuss The Horror Of Kindergarten Fees
« on: April 11, 2010, 04:21:56 PM »
DUmmies like p2B Anne Pritchett are wildly in favor of increased taxes, as long as it's something they won't have to pay. If it affects them, it's an outrage:

School District Charging Fee For Kindergarten
EUDORA, Kan. – While you pay an admission fee to get into an amusement park, one school district is charging a fee to get into kindergarten.
The Eudora School Board voted to start charging a $100 fee per child to enroll in full or half-day kindergarten.

The move is expected to generate thousands of dollars. That money is expected to help reduce the district’s $400,000 budget shortfall.

Board members also voted to shorten the 2010-2011 school year by ten days to help reduce costs.

As a result, school days will be extended anywhere from 15 to 22 minutes per day.

So a town in Kansas will have a small fee to participate in taxpayer-funded daycare. They call it school, but back in the day of 35-pupil classrooms, before unionized teachers, when kids came out of public school with the ability to read, to write clearly, and to do simple math, there was no such thing as kindergarten in most towns. The big impetus for kindergarten seems to have been LBJ's brainchild, the ghetto-based Headstart, which is one reason inner-city kids are such high achievers today. Now, nearly everywhere, taxpayers fund 13 years of school instead of twelve, a class of 15 kids is normal, and the typical graduate is dumber than a stump.

6. Exactly
too many think kindergarten is just babysitting. It isn't and kids who don't have it fall far behind their peers very quickly. I think it's one of the most important years in school and I applaude kindergarten teachers -- all elementary teachers. They do the heavy lifting.

Kindergarten isn't babysitting. Babysitters are available in the evening.

7. It is really tough on families with more than one child.
Our district has a fund for those who can't pay - but there's a form of some kind. I usually make a general comment at the start of the year about this and tell kids to talk to their guidance counselor. I also assure them that this is kept confidential and that I will never know. I don't know how many follow through on this because it is confidential.

Now DUmmy Anne gives a little insight into what kind of parent she was:

I would call the principal every year and tell him that because my child is entitled to a FREE public education, I wasn't going to pay the fees. When my kid was a senior in high school, the principal said I should make sure and pay for a yearbook if he wanted one. And I did.

I never felt bad about not paying because the fees were always for extra curricular stuff my kid didn't do. Why should he pay a sports fee when he didn't play a sport or even go to any games? He took private music and art lessons so there was no need for him to pay an arts fee either.

I have taught in a school district for 30 years that has never charged fees. So I know they don't absolutely have to charge them. It's a freakin scam.

You have to suspect that being raised by a hateful, obnoxious person like Anne is the main reason the kid landed in prison.

"Free Education"...to a liberal the key word is 'free'...not education.

But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

Anne, those fees are used to offset taxes.  Why should other parents pay for my kids band trips/competitions/instruments/etc...??  We ALL pay to educate them.  The extra curricular is what keeps them off the streets, off drugs and out of prison.  You ever seen the inside of a prison Anne?  I'm sure you have  ....  don't you have kin folk there?  Like maybe a son?  They're not nice places BUT you don't have to pay for their extra curricluar .... we ALL get to pay for that.

Kindergarten is only mandatory in 12 states, Kansas isn't one of them.   I actually think this is a great idea.

Did you ever happen to catch any of the dump threads on education in Finland?  In Finland kids don't attend school until seven, spend less time in school per day, the teachers are paid far less, and the students score far better than ours. Dummies sound a lot like Evenrude (the dragon fly) on that one, hummmmmmmmmm! :lmao:

Those fees are usually revolving accounts -- revenue that is not counted in the general account of the school district.  Apples and oranges she is bitching about.

Uh. No. I didn't go to Kindergarten, and when I entered the 1st grade my parents tell me I was reading very well and doing simple math. Why? Because they taught me. GASP! Oh the horror! Parents actually taking the time to educate their children! But isn't that the gubbments responsibility?! It astounds me that kids graduate high school these days being semi illiterate. I can recall in elementary school when we were called on to read out loud from a book. I didn't understand at the time why, but now I know; to see if Johnny can read and to see if he needs glasses or might be dyslexic. To this day I'm a voracious reader.

My oldest went to Kindergarten in Germany we really didn't have much to pay for other than the field trips and I went on all of them with him. My youngest has had much less to pay for I guess because they don't expect parents to chip in and help.

P2BLKansan is a perfect example of what's wrong with public education in this country.

Kindergarten was available but not mandatory in Florida when I was a kid...we moved there from Ohio, and I was too old for K, so I didn't go.  Not only did I survive, but I thrived in school.

I think kids did better when kindergarten was less about teaching them to read "War and Peace" at the age of 5, and more about teaching them to interact with other kids in a very structured setting.

I am so glad we are putting our daughter in private school.  I just cannot stomach putting my daughter in a public school with all these liberals and their kid's.

I'll take a second job as a McDonald's fry jockey, if that's what it takes to pay for private school for my daughter.

Oh, I don't know.  My kids are having a blast educating teachers and some of the kids in their classes!  Of course .... we're in Texas in a very conservative area so a lot of the teachers agree with what my kids say.  I'm sure their other teachers are the ones you see on DU crying about the 'Red State Hell' they are forced to live in!

My oldest three kids got about ten years of their public school education in the Peoples' Republic of New Jersey, and my youngest did his first couple of years there.  They're fine, none of them voted for Obama, and it was a lot harder on the PRNJ lib teachers and principals than it was on them, everything comes down to how they're treated at home and teaching them about the real world there.

Most of the teachers were in fact perfectly-fine people and quality instructors, and the kids in class with them were pretty normal as well, there is a lot of totally-unwarranted dread of letting kids have contact with icky, icky reality on both left and right, though it manifests in different ways.

I survived 12 years of public school in the PRNJ; my brothers all had various years worth of public school and Friends school (which is MUCH more liberal actually than public school).  My son is finishing 8th grade (public) but will be going to a Catholic HS next year.  We were able to utilize the NJ School Choice program and get him into the neighboring town's K-8 school which has worked out much better than our own township's school system where I have had the misfortune of meeting some very P2BLK-like teachers. I would say 90% of my son's teachers have been very reasonable people.

Has this idiot ever heard of property taxes?  Public education isn't free, bitch.

And what does her not paying the fee for one thing and paying for a yearbook have to do with anything? :mental:

My guess is the idiot probably believed that a yearbook was part of the "free" goodies to which they were entitled.  It would fit right in with the rest of the way they view things.

I think the principal was giving her a little dig, only she's not smart enough to know it, so she wrote it at the DUmp, apropos of nothing.   "Hey cheapskate" he was thinking "remember the yearbook's not FREE.  Stick a crowbar in your wallet, why don't you."
