My 22 year old now uninsured

How can this happen?

We received notice this week that because our daughter was no longer in college that she would no longer be covered by our insurance plan.

I called the insurance company and asked them if the new law signed 2 weeks ago didn't permit her to stay on our insurance until she was 26.

Their reply was that the law signed just last week didn't take effect yet and they had not determined how it would effect our plan.

I kept pressing the issue and asking for supervisors and getting the same canned response word for word. Insurance companies don't plan on following the law of the land.

Should change the name to "stupid N proud".  This part of the law doesn't start until September at the earliest, and companies can make people wait until their next plan year begins.

Its funny you can see who actually knows what is in the bill and it aint them for sure. All they see is Obama won.

doesn't the new law also require the "kid" to be a student or reside in the same house?

Isn't it the law of the land at the moment--April 9, 2010--that insurance companies don't have to do this?

I guess the insurance companies are following the law of the land, then.

Amazing to me how they try to paint 'Not having health insurance' as the end of the world.  I ran around building water towers for nigh on 10 years without any health insurance other than workmen's comp.  Pretty damn dangerous job and I lived a pretty damned dangerous life after hours.  I seem to have made it from the age of 21 to my early 30's just fine.  Now I'm considerably older and still doing fine.

I haven't had health insurance since I left the Guard over four years ago. And guess what DUmbasses, I'm still alive.

In seven days, I'll have insurance again. Tell your daughter to get online and buy some damn health insurance. It's not as expensive for someone our age as you make it out to be.  :thatsright:

7. I think they told you exactly right--the law has not taken effect yet.

From all that I've heard or read the child coverage to age 26 takes effect this year. I could google an answer, but so can you.

Are you implying people don't deserve information just because you think they are too lazy?

How rethuglikkklan of you. Obviously we need a government program to federally subsidize googling for the informationally challenged.

6. Seems your baby should be insurable within 6 months...

Unless the vaguely worded bill doesn't require them to go back after the fact and put them back on

Anyway, an adult of 22 is not a baby anymore.  Time to grow up.

BOR, in his Miller Time segment said, "If I have a kid still at home at 26, he's going to need healthcare."

I fully expect a donk bill coming out that demands parents keep their children in their house (no rent, no rules) until the parents are dead.  The Parental Residential Fairness Act.

You heard it hear first.

Oh, man!!  The primitives are really going to be surprised when they come to find out that under obama-non-care that in order to receive care from a doctor or nurse, or to have access to the use of  medical supplies, medical facilities, and medicine, that money will need to be exchanged.

But, it won't be any of their's, so they won't care.

Its actually become quite common in Europe because they have already destroyed their upward mobility.

In the "glorious" Carter years I was doing work with the SCCA as a safety worker (for free....) tward rthe end of the day and after all cars were off track, a young woman in her 20's got out of a street car passanger seat, and started collecting deposit cans from the garbage. There was an older man in the driver's seat.

So I walked over to find out why. Seems this young woman had become divorced and lost her job. Told her Father (ther older guy in the car) that she was broke and had no where to live as she, with her infant, was moving  back in with the parents. Dad was teaching her there WAS a way to HONESTLY GET MONEY when the chips are down. Five cents per can......

Teaching the value of work and independence.

This democrat boob needs to get off dead center and DO SOMETHING USEFUL for those calories that are being metabolized! Right now, how about advertizing you'll set up small gardens? Shopper for disabled/shutins deposit bottle redeamer for those who don't want to go, hell, there are thousands of small jobs that are too small for a organized business but just right for on otherwise broke person.

But, then, you need to have some personal responsibility....
