*** Stupak to call it quits? With just a few days to go before the end of this recess, House Democrats are cautiously optimistic that they could get through it without a single retirement announcement. That said, there is still a concern that some important incumbents in districts that they are uniquely suited could call it quits. At the top of the concern list this week: Michigan Democrat Bart Stupak. The Democrat best known this year as the Democrat who delivered the winning margin of votes for the president's health-care reform bill is said to be simply exhausted. The criticism he received -- first from the left, and then from the right -- has worn him and his family out. And if he had to make the decision now, he'd probably NOT run. As of this writing, a bunch of senior Democrats (many of the same ones who twisted his arm on the health care vote) are trying to talk him into running. The filing deadline in Michigan is still a month away, but veterans of that state's politics are skeptical anyone other than Stupak can hold that district in this political climate.

"Now with health care done, he’s retiring," a friend said. "He has thought about retiring for the last three cycles, but was always talked into staying: to elect John Kerry to help end the war, to elect a Democratic majority to get health care done."

Hi,

Just watched a blurb on Fox where they discussed the fact Stupak has decided not to run.  They then ran a segment where his wife was bitching about all the nasty calls and faxes they received at their home and the office.  The tea parties have targeted him and are demonstrating as we type.

Limbaugh said it best when he said they are governing AGAINST THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE.

I am totally opposed to any kind of violence and all the talk show hosts have been educating us to avoid that at all costs.  At the same time I think this is the beginning of the end for many in congress.  Like any adults and children we have learned that "behavior has consequences".  When the democrat party in congress totally ignores the will of the people on TARP, Cap & Tax and health care, they doggone sure better be prepared for the consequences.

Those consequences will come about in feedback they are not going to like followed by many of them losing their jobs.  Just like in the private sector, displease those that hire you and you are likely to get some really negative feedback.  Continue with the objectionable behavior and one should expect to be fired.

Many in congress are hopefully going to learn lessons about the real world.

He ****ed us and ran away. If his last minute sellout was worth it he should stand up and say as much but he knows he sold us out--and his supposed pro-life position with it--against our will and he doesn't have the stones to defend his actions let alone face the electoral consequences of his actions.

So now he retires with a fat gov't pension and gets to pretend he's beyond the fray while the rest of us try to cope with the fallout of his cowardice.

I don't agree that his was a last minute decision.  My feeling is the plan was for him to vote for the damn bill all along, it was just how do they find a way for him to save face and do so.  Never did I think the bill was not going to pass.

One way or the other I hope he catches hell the rest of his life, he sold out the American people and those who hired him.

I don't think 0bama can legally do a recess appointment to fill a SCOTUS seat.  Recess appointments are intended to be for positions in the Executive branch, not the judiciary.  Also, recess appointments are limited duration, and I don't believe that would pass Constitutional muster for a lifetime appointment without the "advice and consent" of the Senate.

The Supreme Court is a "co-equal" branch of the federal government.  Outside of nominating new justices for the Senate to confirm, The MessiahnFuhrer has no authority to force them to do something they don't want to do.  I'm sure, if Lord Zero didn't follow every whit of the process the Constitution lays out for filling a seat on the Court, Chief Justice Roberts wouldn't even bat an eyelash at refusing to seat a new "associate Justice" who's confirmation wasn't as clean as the wind driven snow.

Besides, Justice Stevens is the acknowleged head of the Moonbat Wing of the USSC.  Even if The MessiahnFuhrer runs a raving, goose-stepping marxist for that seat, the make-up of the court still doesn't change.  We have 4 voting in line with the Constitution, 4 voting to toss the Constitution onto a bonfire, and 1 "switch hitter" who could go either way.
