I think the no-bid contracts with their buddies to provide city services is more the problem.  As it is in the federal government.

That's pretty much the essence of it.  On the left, a lot is made about how the California tax revolt through the initiative and referendum provisions screwed up the state, but the real problem is that government at all levels kept spending as if the tax revenues wouldn't ever run into any of the limits that process imposed.  The state's ability to bail out any of the lower government's is pretty close to nonexistent.

They aren't borrowing money?

Kinda hard to borrow money at anything less than loan-shark interest rates when you've just been downgraded to Aa3.

The left has a lot of useful idiots.  They don't understand that they whine about corporate excess all day long, while their leaders make backroom deals to fund the excess.

Interesting article the other day on how San Francisco shut down an entrepeuner who started his own trash collecting business that pissed off Waste Management because well he was expanding because he could collect trash and deliver it to the dump cheaper than they could.

The times Waste Management has gotten itself in trouble for fraud and other shenagigans is hilarious, yet they still get contracts.

Same thing with the Health Care Reform, watching democrats sit starry eyed think the dear leader had delivered them Health Care when all he did was ensure the middleman gets transfer payments from them, they pay a high deductible, and the providers and employers get more paperwork.  He also protected Pharma's rights to not negotiate with the Federal Government on prices.

California and New York State are our Greece.  Their new budgets this year are going to cause a lot of screaming.

I used to live in CA.  Ex still does.  John and Ken on KFI have been screaming about it for years, and have a huge audience/following, but still it keeps getting worse.  No, people aren't going to care until it hits THEIR wallets, or that the so-called "services" they were so used to having aren't there anymore--not like they're there in great quantity or quality now.

LA is so close to chaos now it's not even funny.  Back when I lived there, I used to tell people, "WMD?  Who needs them?  Just give me a dozen stalled cars, and I'd rule this town."

Bailout-O-Rama?

Correct, Timmeh Geithner, the largest enemy to decency in the administration is still papering over his mistake in 2008.

I remember they wanted to make the bailouts systemic and automatic. That didn't fly. Then months later they wanted to force some of the companies to pay it back, exempting their political favorites.

I have about as much use for the democrats as I do the republicans at this point.

Too much power concentrated always leads to bad things.  I'd be more than happy to areas of the south where Republican political machines do similar things that democratic ones.

Just a gentle reminder that he has been less than straightforward vis-a-vis, his past visits with us, particularly when among those of his political genre......

All are welcome here, and censorship isn't our thing, but I would be less than honest if I didn't caution members that libs using our forums to generate "street cred" in lib forums is one of the traits we should expect.......

I'm just cursed with this whole "integrity" idea.......I know its "Pollyanna".......but I can't help it.... :-)

BTW keep your eyes on LA, that one is about to blow unless the President sends Timmeh in with a helicopter full of money to prevent chaos before November.

That's exactly what he's going to do.  It's the Federal takeover of California with the message being sent of "Since you can't handle you own budget, we will.  You either do what we tell you to do or we'll kill you."  The left will applaude it since iron-fisted rule is their first, middle and last name.

30 years of the state increasing services and not correspondingly increasing taxes and using debt to pay for it ....

Allowing illegals come into the State, the illegals paying little to nothing into the system, but their kids get free education, medical, etc... is what buried them.  I can't blame the people for not wanting to pay taxes to support people who shouldn't be in the country in the first place.

From link provided by TV Doc:
RE:  Teaparty movement
Quote
It will be impossible to work with the Tea Party groups.  You might be angry at the Administration, but that movement is not one to follow or flirt with too much.  The leaders of that group are just as interested as the leaders in the two parties to continue the hate and anger and lack of rational discourse that has gotten us to this point in American History.

ATJ, if you come back here, I just wanted to comment on this comment of yours.  It's problematic to paint the tea party movement with a broad brush, like everyone else is doing.  Everybody wants one pithy paragraph to encapsulate the whole thing.  It can't be done, it's made up of individuals; hence, the homemade signs, not the factory-made ones.

P.S.  I read the whole thread over there, and much was made about your first visit here, with "death threats" ensuing.  Poor Nikki Stone is scared.  Anyway, we may kill our dinner, and we may kill our enemy in a military situation or possible home invasion, but we don't go around killing or even getting into fistfights.
I'm one of them, and I couldn't really name a "leader."  It's all local, anyway.  The St. Louis tea party is huge, but I don't answer to anyone there, and they don't communicate with me.

The DUmmies were/are forever asking "what do these douchebags want, anyway?"  It's simple, all you have to do is read the signs.

I just wanted to add my voice to what Karin has pointed out to ATJ above.

The Tea Party movement is true grassroots actions whether you want to admit to it or not, Jake.  I'm an individual who is active in my state and local TP, but can't be pigeonholed into a party any longer.  Using the broad brush as do your fellow DU'ers and OET'ers makes you nothing more than the hypocrites you accuse everyone who isn't a member of your forums of being.  But, that's expected since it's an established fact that liberals are very hypocritical indeed.

Never, not once, have I heard any ugly epithets or death threats being used during a TP rally.  We have some directed at us by passersby, but respond with smiles and waves.  We always manage to get our point across civilly, show respect and gratitude to LE present for our protection and enjoy the company of one another while teaching our children and grandchildren that it is indeed patriotic to question and disagree with the political decisions being made for our country.

I'm a recovered Democrat who, after years of ignorantly pulling that lever, finally saw it as the party of enslavement of every type imaginable.   Add to that the continued and heightened hatred boiling out of the party and the Obama operatives on so called Democratic sites and the constant victim/race card gambit.  Why would anyone with a shred of human decency and integrity continue to be associated with Democrats?
