To the young man who is campaigning for no cussing....
In 20008, the day before the Democratic National Convention began in Denver, there were meetings and presentations all over downtown.

I went to one with the Spiritual Progressive Network, and one of the speakers was Tony Campolo, an Evangelical seen by many as conservative. So, he should be right in your own ballpark.

Campolo teaches at an Evangelical Seminary, and he was relating the story that he walked into the class one day and announced, "Last night while you were sleeping, 24,000 people died of starvation." The class was quiet and looked bored. He raised his voice, and loudly said, "Whats worse is that 24,000 people died, and you don't give a shit."

The class was startled, and looked annoyed, but still said nothing. He raised his voice even louder and said, "What's even worse is that you are more upset that I said 'shit' than that 24,000 people died!"

The room where he was speaking erupted into applause and cheers. We were all pleased to know there is someone who is so passionate about poverty. So, to the young man, while I understand your concerns, I suggest you reexamine your priorities, and your perspective.

There ARE things that are more important.

On the average, 1 person dies every second as a result, either directly or indirectly, of hunger - 4000 every hour - 100 000 each day - 36 million each year -58 % of all deaths (2001-2004 estimates).

How can this be possible? In Western civilizations, no one goes hungry unless it's voluntary. Nearly everyone else lives in a socialist workers' paradise. Surely no one is hungry in socialist workers' paradises. Are they?

Of course, that's 17,998 years from now, and we'll all be dead long before then, so who really gives a shit?

While Bobbolink is, of course, a blithering idiot, and never steps back from a chance to demonstrate it beyond all doubt, she (He? Whatever) fails to realize that the entire reason the lecturer's use of profanity had a startling effect was because it was an extraordinary departure from the instructor's norm.  NOBODY who ever reads DU would say that about the swamp of random obscenities in which their few and misguided actual thoughts (Or, more accurately, brain-farts) are embedded.

If this is about the Kalifornia legislature making the no cuss day, I think everyone knows it is one shy of 2/3 donks.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Isn't working while on disability a no-no? A friend who is on disability said the slightest amount of work, if found out, will get you kicked of SSD. He makes extra money buying and selling stuff at flea markets, which he said was okay with them. But actual labor will get you booted.

I'd hate to see that happen to a dummy.  :-) Really hate it.

24,000 people died of starvation last night, and you're worried about being able to marry your queer partner?

24,000 people died of starvation last night, and you want marijuana legalized?

24,000 people died of starvation last night, and you're whining to have your student loans forgiven?

24,000 people died of starvation last night, and you campaign to have DADT repealed?

24,000 people died of starvation last night, and you're worried about a couple of broken windows?

Is Bobo the Hobo claiming this as a personal experience or a C/P of someone else experiences? I don't see a source link.

I can't imagine any place that would allow her to enter. It's probable that she sells herself to any bum on the street for 1/2 a glass of wine. She doesn't have the opportunity to bathe on a regular basis. She would be denied entrance to any event that had more that two people in attendance.

What object does a Hobo ounce? She can't afford a ball.
Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

They did that and other free events in order to get the bums off the streets for the TV cameras.  Rather than protesting the Dems for not addressing poverty, you fell for it.  Congrats!

How many come from countries that birth control for the sake of how many mouths you can feed a year, means nothing? There are countries that all they must do all day is make more children in order to starve.

After all, no jobs, ya can't raise wheat in sand, the average rain fall amounts to an inch, so what the hell ya gonna grow anyway, most still hunt with spears and still don't have a clue how to feed one's dependents. You actually have to get outa the sack with momma and put your johnson away for a while, and at least try to put some food on the table that doesn't come out of a sack marked "U.N." or "Red Cross"!!!!!!!!!

When ya answer that, DUmmie, perhaps we'll have some sort of understanding.

I talked to a real life dummy the other day who wants to apply for disability at age 55.  She's had one knee surgery and is going to have the other one done soon.  A lawyer said that at her age and both knees done - that's she's a shoe-in for disability, even though she knows how good the first one healed and she now works and plans to return to work after three months of recuperating.

She's applying for disability.

Visit at the hospital, be all nicey-nice, get contact info, and when the dummy starts back to work while on disability, notify the SSA of the fraud.  We'll see how they like having gov't goons sicced on them for a change...

I have 6 screws in my back and 1 in my ankle. My Doc finds it unbelievable that i don't even want a handicapped license plate! I could have been deemed disabled in '98. It pisses me off even to see a guy with a cane use handi-capped parking! I used to use two, it ain't all that tough!

Disability pays around 1600/month for me. I was on it while they used me as a tinker toy. I couldn't wait to get back to work!

Sure I could live on $1600 as "Toots" is a purchasing agent for a major salad dressing company, but I couldn't stand to just lay around and watch re-runs or post on some POS message board like the DUmp. Lets face it, ya have to be a lazy liberal to take disability when you're not truly disabled!
