David Petraeus for President: Run General, Run
« on: April 04, 2010, 12:03:20 PM »
Folks, this is a sneak peak of Obama strategy 2012. The Perot tactic. Divide the conservative vote.
Please note nowhere in this article does it say where the good general stands. He could be another Wesley Clark or a RINO like Powell. YET with no political statements the article tries to tie the general to the Tea Party.

Watch and see if this trial balloon floats or sinks. You can bet if this fails another and another will be floated.

The comments are more informative than the article! Yeah, its that kind of article.

Click on the link, and you will be amazed at just how little this article actually says.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/7549797/David-Petraeus-for-President-Run-General-run.html

The key is in the last paragraph:
Quote
Whether as an independent or as Republican, he could be a powerful presidential candidate and a potentially accomplished President. He may not want to run but if the clamour to draft him grows he might just find the call of duty - not to mention the contest of a lifetime - difficult to resist.

In order to really win, he needs to make it through the RNC. If he runs as an independent, he may get some votes, but I think that the state of the Nation is such that the people won't lean independent.

With all due respect, sir, I think it's WAAAAAY to early to be prognosticating how the run-up, mud-slinging and the division of America for the continued benefit of the two major, corrupted parties will shape up.  FFS, we still have to get through the '10 election, and I'm in no way certain that the GOP fellaters have that one as sewn up as they think they do (refer to the 1934 mid-terms where Roosevelt was supposed to get his ass beat as corroborating evidence of this "feeling").

How 'bout we save the chest thumping over "Party loyalty" until the GOP shows somebody other than the "Progressive Republicans" (aka: "Dim'Rat Lites") cause to be loyal to them, eh?

By and large, he leans to the right.  His speech at St. Anselm the other day was indicative of it.

Hi,

If the doo-doo were to really hit the fan and our commie president try to suspend elections it will be the military that would have to prevent that.  A terrorist attack, any number of things could cause BO to declare martial law and try to grab the power for good.  I have said many times that there are three people who likely would have the moral authority to lead until the country settled down and elections could be held, Patraeus, Tommy Frank and Schwartzkof.

Make note of the fact that Tommy Frank had prostate surgery and they played it up huge in the papers because they knew damn well he could well be a candidate.  A well respected general would draw from both parties and indeed would have the moral authority to lead.

At this point I do not want the republican candidate to be from the establishment, we do not need more of the same.  Having spent the better part of an hour with Schwartzkof a few years ago I can assure you he would be a good one too even in his early 70's.

Throwing one's support behind someone just because he wears or wore a uniform is foolish. Colin Powel and John Murtha come to mind specifically. And I'm sure that many of us that are or were in the military know a few officers that are....well....oportunistic assholes, more concerned with their fruit salad than their men.

Eisenhower comes to mind.  The 50's were a great time to be a kid  :-)

According to those who have served under him, General Petraeus has been nothing but honorable in all ways.  Face it, any guy who gets shot IN THE CHEST and then gets discharged a couple of days later when he does 50 push-ups in front of the docs is one ballsy character in my book.

Hi,

I totally agree with you.  I lived in Tampa when Tommy Frank was there and I met Schwartzkof and know he is no Colin Powell to say the least.  He and I discussed the book "Dereliction of Duty" and I do not want to quote the man, but to say I would be most comfortable with him.

Petraeus is NOT for me. He is strongly anti-Israel. I heard him say so in a TV speach!!
