P.A.C.T. Act is signed into law

With President Barack Obama’s approval, the U.S. Postal Service is now prohibited from shipping cigarettes - a devastating blow to the Seneca Nation of Indians’ $330 million tobacco industry.

On Wednesday afternoon, President Obama signed the Prevention of All Cigarette Trafficking Act into law, nearly two weeks after the bill received its final approval in Congress. In addition prohibiting the mailing of cigarettes, the new law provides for stricter requirements in reporting cigarette sales from tobacco merchants and increased penalties for falsely reporting cigarette sales. Additionally, both federal and state governments will have more power to investigate violations.

Calling President Obama’s action a “deliberate betrayal,” Barry E. Snyder Sr., Seneca Nation president, condemned the new law.

“The president of the United States invited Native American leaders to Washington D.C. in November and looked us in the eye as a sign of good faith in his pledge to protect federal treaties,” President Snyder said. “Now four months later, he has betrayed that promise.

"In 1779, President George Washington was referred to as Hanodagonyas, an Iroquois term meaning ‘town destroyer,’ for his attempt to quell Native American uprisings,” President Snyder continued. “I think that term should be dusted off and given to Barack Obama for the economic destruction that P.A.C.T. Act will cause."

In the weeks leading up to the bill’s passage, Seneca leaders have estimated the Nation will lose up to 65 percent of its import/export revenues, which funds Seneca social-welfare programs. In addition, Nation officials say approximately 1,000 local jobs tied to Native mail-order cigarette sales will be lost.

With the new law slated to go into effect on July 1, J.C. Seneca, a Tribal councilor, said the Nation will brace for the impact.

“This is devastating for the Seneca Nation, the businesses and all the employees, but it won’t take us down. We’ve been pushed around by the government for centuries and we keep finding ways to survive,” Mr. Seneca said. “We’ll all be looking at ways to adapt and save as many jobs as possible.”

The Nation of Seneca Indians is very close from where i am located.
The government took their land and broke a treaty George Washington signed and put a so called flood control damn ( Kinzua Dam) in to prevent flooding on the Allegheny River. Engineers stated that the dam was not in the correct location because there are other river dumping into the Allegheny down river to cause flooding such as the Connawango, Oil Creek, Brokenstraw, Slippery Rock among many other water sources but they put the damn in anyways.
 Then they wanted to put Rt 17 ( now I86) across their reservation without the Seneca Nation of Indians approval.
The Seneca's stopped construction until they were paid for the right of way.
They actually took one of the forklifts that the construction company had on site, rammed a sheriff's car, and drove to the boundary and dumped it off and told them that the roadway across their nation is closed until further notice. They burnt tires in the middle of the road until the government negotiated with them on the matter.
N.Y. state (where their reservation is now located) has recently said that they want to place state taxes on tobacco products sold on the Seneca Indian Reservation. The Seneca Tribal Council said they will not collect taxes for the state government, Yes the government has tried to mess with them for centuries. Now the USPS will be able to do something with shipment , but the Seneca's will work around it some how I'm sure.

I'm sure some are sent to our troops but the troops can buy them cheaper than on reservations if overseas . There are no taxes if purchased aboard a ship or at a Navy exchange or PX abroad. Thus makeing them very cheap.

Does this "law" only apply to the USPS? Because EO's can't apply to non-government entities such as Fed-Ex and UPS right?? I guess Seneca can go Fed-Ex/UPS. Or they could just build a dang casino like every other real and pretend indian reservation.

They already built two casinos. One in Salamaca, NY and one in Niagara.
 I think UPS and FedEx are venues that they will utilize if need be. Or they may start their own trucking company.

Shouldn't that really read:

Half-rican  'cause he ain't back, and he ain't no kinda American I never met.  Heck, this rubes great great grand pappy probably sold his wife's great great granny to the man and his mamma, well lets jus not even mention what she was all about. 

But I do like the ear-cooled part.
