Other countries have hate speech laws. Why don't we?

Here is a rundown. It's too long to post what is in this article so I leave you with a link, but different countries make hate speech a crime if it can lead to hate crimes and genocide. Please read.

http://www.answers.com/topic/hate-speech#Canada

It seems our time has come to expand and refine exactly what the First Amendment does cover and what it shouldn't. btw, This was the reason Ann Coulter had to cancel her speech at the university of Ottowa in Canada after an appearance at the University of Western Ontario, where she made some racial slur.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/25/world/americas/25coul...

During an appearance Monday at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, a female Muslim student noted that Ms. Coulter had once said that Muslims should be banned from airplanes and should use flying carpets instead.

Ms. Coulter responded by telling the student that she could “take a camel.” Even before that appearance, Ms. Coulter had been warned by François Houle, the University of Ottawa’s provost, that someone who makes intemperate racial remarks can be prosecuted in Canada.

be careful what you wish for DUmmy. If we had laws like Canada does, you all would have been in jail when Bush was President.

You accuse us of hate yet you forget when Alec Baldwin went on teevee (as you spell it) and called for Henry Hyde to be stoned to death. There was no call for hate speech laws etc then.

4. Well, sure, why don't we gut the First Amendment, while we're requiring

everyone to purchase a product from a third party, private corporation.

Are you trying to give the Tea Baggers and Freepers legitimate reasons to argue that we take away Americans' freedoms?

Our reasons are already legit. DU is proof of that. You call for us to be jailed and that we don't even constitutional rights all for the crime of not wanting your socialist dreams to be implemented.

10. Because if you banned hate speech, you'd be gagging half the country.

actually less than half the country recent polls show libs at 20%

71. That's why we should bring back the Fairness Doctrine

We should protect free speech, not inhibit it.

this reminds me of the clip Beck played of Eddy Shultz whining that he wants the fairness doctrine so he can have a career.

143. Technically America is a young Country. Hope we don't implode.

If we throw the dems out of office we may not implode just yet. But, if the left retains power we are screwn.

death of Bush or anyone else?

How were they received by the Mods?

I don't remember talk of violence and intimidation being allowed. There were occasional posts, but they were quickly removed as I recall.

all you have to do is go back a few days when Cheney had another heart problem or when Rush had chest pains. You will see tons of death wishes. Several threads at DU that are archived now called for Bush, Cheney, etc to be hanged at the Hague.

Like I said DUmmies be careful for what you wish for the GOP will be in power again at some point and all the limits you place on us will apply to you.

The mods went "Uh-oh, someone's saying something outloud that we're only suppose to say behind closed doors.  Quick, someone denounce it, and we may have to scrub it altogether."  That's how they were received.

The Little Goons fail to realie that if we DID have the hate crimes laws of other countries...$kimmer would have to close up shop because all his paying customers would be in jail.

based on what?

What jail cell is Charlie Rangle sitting in? What was the punishment for the New Black Panthers? They will never enforce these kind of laws equally.

Based on the GOP will be in power again someday and theoretically the same things they want to do to us we could do to them.

based on what history of the GOP?

This GOP didn't defund Planned Parenthood, the one passing out "How to be Sluts" manuals to Girl Scouts and killing babies. And somehow I am suppose to put some sort of faith in the GOP to do something?

Yeah I know the GOP is just bad as the Dems. I missed Beck yesterday and started to forget that.  :-)

If DUmmies want hate speech law, it would apply to them as well. There is plenty of hate speech there.

The irony is that Al Queda would have no problem at all blowing a few of themselves up in the middle of that crowd. But the survivors of the parade would still just blame the joooooooos.
