There are three things wrong in the following image.  Can you pick them out?

The quote doesn't fit, obviously.

Upon doing research on this Lewis guy, he wrote a book about a fascist president.

Quote
Berzelius "Buzz" Windrip, a charismatic and power-hungry politician, is elected President of the United States on a populist platform, promising to restore the country to prosperity and greatness, and, more importantly, promising each citizen five thousand dollars a year.

Sounds awfully familiar.

I'm not super smart, so I honestly don't know what else is wrong with this picture.

Not Palin, photoshopped hand and cross, and ?

No, it is Sarah.  It's a photo from Newsweek, I guess.

The three fake things about this picture:

1. Cross is photoshopped in.

2. The quote is fake. What Lewis said about fascism had nothing to do with crosses.

3. Lewis was born in 1885, 50 years after the date given for the quote.

Facebook exchange about this picture:

Other guy: Yep. He had it right.

Me: The really amusingly ironic thing is that not only is the photo fake, but so is the quote. Sinclair Lewis never said or wrote any such thing. I did some searching and what he actually said was "When fascism comes to the United States it will be wrapped in the American flag and will claim the name of 100-percent Americanism" (York, Pennsylvania, Gazette and Daily; Feb. 1948). In 1971, Harrison Evans Salisbury rendered it as: "Sinclair Lewis aptly predicted in It Can't Happen Here that if fascism came to America it would come wrapped in the flag and whistling 'The Star Spangled Banner.'"

Me: And the date is wrong, too. Lewis was born in 1885. Fake picture, fake quote, fake date. Three strikes and it's out.

Other guy: I'm not doubting that the photo is inauthentic. I am a little dismayed to hear that the quote is possibly slightly misquoted (I've yet to do the research to support or refute your statement.) Even if the quote that you provided is correct, Ms. Palin certainly meets those requirements. She wraps herself up in the notion that she is 100% American who bleeds red, white, and blue. I think that Sinclair Lewis was trying to state that fascism will be wrapped up in nationalism. It is my honest opinion that those who fall into the "America is the best country and the only country that God the Father Almighty loves" are nationalist. Ms. Palin has shown herself to be in that camp--at least for me.

Whether or not Sinclair Lewis said that Fascism will be wrapped in an American flag and carrying a cross, I think it is true. So there...I said the quote. Let it be known that on March 25, 2010, Cody E. Maynus stated, "Fascism, when it comes, will come wrapped in an American flag and carrying a cross."

Me: Doesn't Obama meet those requirements, too?

Me: You might want to check his logo, too, to see who is bleeding red, white and blue.

Me: So, wait. Are you saying that the quote is "fake, but accurate?"

Other guy: After researching a bit (not much), I am willing to concede that the quote is not necessarily authentic. I am, however, saying that it is accurate.

How is Sarah Palin a Fascist?

A Fascist would be:
Adolf Hitler
Benito Mussolini
Hideaki Tojo
Juan Peron
Saddam Hussein

They are clearly leftist.

Doesn't matter to me any longer. After I supported her with her "America First", and then she flip-flopped to politics as usual with her support of McCain, that was enough for me. She might flip back again, but I've had enough of these pay-backs, political loyaltys and tap dances. She's part of the system. Too bad. She had a good start but now there are far more desireable options that aren't beholden to the McCain's et al.

This is an 18-year-old kid (I'm 38 now, so I can call 18-year-olds "kids") who is drifting in a bizarre wasteland of religion and politics.  He was in Washington with some Catholic nuns last week to cheer on HCR.  He claims HCR protesters did bad things to them.

Like offer to pray for him?

Here's what he said:

Quote
Frankly, ...the attributes of the god to whom most of the tea-party members outside of the capitol on Monday were giving credit DO NOT match the attributes of the God of Christianity. I witnessed people preface their statements with "I'm a Bible-believin', queer-hatin', born-again Christian." These "Christians" then yelled at, cursed and cussed at, and threatened a group of people--nuns, pastors, and laypersons (my self included in the group)--saying that his "god" would smite us all in the end. Those are Christian attributes that befit a God of love, right? Hardly.

Small government and individual freedom is the anti-thesis of Fascism.

That was the point, I believe.  Sarah believes in small government and individual freedoms, yet the left likes to label her a fascist, as they do with most conservatives.

Does anyone else honestly believe this happened?  If it was Fred Phelps, I'd believe it, but I doubt that it was him or anyone connected to him.
