Bluebear (1000+ posts) Fri Mar-19-10 09:56 PMOriginal messagePelosi also confirms today that "pre-existing condition" clause is for children only. Edited on Fri Mar-19-10 09:57 PM by Bluebear...It is pretty exciting for us. Within months of enactment, no child in America can ever be denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition. As the bill comes into effect, there will no longer be caps on what you can receive, but there will be caps on what you pay in. http://thepage.time.com/transcript-pelosi-press-confere... Adults? We get to wait four years. As a fellow DUer said today: '4 years??? I hope we don't die before then....':I've had 3 disks removed from my neck and am currently living on Hydrocodone and Naproxen as the next disk in line deteriorates. 2 years ago, my wife, who carried our health insurance through her city job, had to retire due to the advancement of her Crohn's Disease. Since then, We have been unable to acquire health insurance because of our pre-existing conditions. My wife's Crohn's disease is currently active and she is losing weight.I hope we survive 4 years.http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph... A disgraceful rider to this bill, and disgraceful to keep touting "no child will be denied" while not explaining that adults are on their own.

girl gone mad (1000+ posts) Fri Mar-19-10 10:08 PMResponse to Reply #220. "...still can't ruin my joy at this win." That just sums up everything that's wrong with the bill boosters in one short sentence.

laughingliberal (1000+ posts) Fri Mar-19-10 10:03 PMResponse to Reply #57. Oh, BS! There have been people screaming that this was a lie for weeks Finally, when the White House press secretary confirms it we see people admit it. Now it changes to the High Risk Pool will be there for them. And, will there be a subsidy to help pay the premium for the High Risk Pool?
Bluebear (1000+ posts) Fri Mar-19-10 10:04 PMResponse to Reply #710. I don't know what "ignored" is fussing about, but obviously the bar has been lowered again
laughingliberal (1000+ posts) Fri Mar-19-10 10:09 PMResponse to Reply #1022. Well, now that the White House has admitted what we've said for a while here we are supposed to believe this is old news and we haven't seen people here denying it right up until the White House confirmed it. Your memory of what was said will now be replaced with the new version of what was said.
HughMoran (1000+ posts) Fri Mar-19-10 10:10 PMResponse to Reply #1125. People who don't know anything about the bill have been arguing against it? We've known about this for months - I remember arguing about it then and being disappointed but understanding about the CBO impact of the pre-existing condition clause. This deliberate ignorance seems awfully familiar, doesn't it?
laughingliberal (1000+ posts) Fri Mar-19-10 10:16 PMResponse to Reply #2540. There have been plenty of people here arguing with those who pointed out that there would be no requirement for the insurers to cover preexisting conditions for 4 years. You may not have been one of them but there have been plenty denying it to those of us who did know it. Now, it's "nothing to see here. move along." And it's been perfectly obvious that those who cared about seeing meaningful health care reform could very well have been calling Congress and the White House and expressing their support for improving this bill instead of yelling at the people here who were pointing out some things we might want to try and get changed before it passed. But nooo.....

Skinner ADMIN (1000+ posts) Fri Mar-19-10 04:01 PMResponse to Original message1. OK, I'll bite. Could you parse it for me? Because when I read it, it sounds like thousands of uninsured Americans with preexisting conditions will be able to purchase health insurance.
Skinner ADMIN (1000+ posts) Fri Mar-19-10 04:06 PMResponse to Reply #27. I'm pretty sure the rules prohibiting insurance companies from denying coverage... ...for preexisting conditions covers adults as well as children. And the bill includes subsidies to help people purchase insurance. No, it's not free, but it's significantly better than what we have now.
Skinner ADMIN (1000+ posts) Fri Mar-19-10 04:14 PMResponse to Reply #913. I find this argument puzzing. Yes, obviously it would be better if the rules were immediate. But the fact that any of the bill's opponents are using this 2014 date as an argument against the bill is nonsensical. I am told to believe that this health care reform is a travesty. But what's worse is that this travesty doesn't phase in immediately!
They won't. It'll be hell kicking those habits.I don't think they realize either that the feel good pills will stop too. If they think doctors are going to will nilly keep on giving out pills they are sadly mistaken.I heard a congressman today make the point this program will help fight drug abuse. The DUmmies are in for a big surprise.

Low hanging fruit:Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Democrats = C.H.U.D.Yum!
I saw the first and the second one, CHUD the Bud.
There is a guy on FOX right now clarifying that it is ONLY CHILDREN who will be covered for pre-existing....adults not until 2014.....Yep...see what happens when someone READS the bill instead of a Democrat TELLING what's in the bill....
