All 107 seniors were accepted to a four-year college, a significant accomplishment considering they are from one of the toughest neighborhoods on the South Side of Chicago.

Just four years ago, when King started the school, only 4 percent of the class was reading at grade level.

Students attend school from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30pm. That's 72,000 more minutes in high school than most other students -- almost an extra school year.

"They are in a double period of English each and every day," King said. "Four years of math, four years of science, four years of social studies, three years of foreign languages."

Urban Prep Charter Academy was the first all-male charter school in the country. It is all male to eliminate distractions from female students.

Imagine that... schools work when you run them the way they're supposed to be run.

My biggest complaint, and I remember this from being a student, is the long summer break when half the dumbasses in my classes would forget what they didn't learn the year before and drag everyone else down with them.
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

King created a school that excused nothing -- and expected everything.
The young men at the academy wear suit jackets and ties as signs of respect.

I can hear them warming up to sue from every direction. This 100% proves the system works and the Libs can't have that so they'll sue it into submission.

It might turn out that the whole thing was a fraud too. I hope not though, its a good story.

I hated the fact that, from my POV, the entire month of September and part of October was a frackin' waste (aka review).

As did I.

  • Oh well, I wasn't using my civil liberties anyway.
When I was in school in NOVA, we had year round school.  9 weeks on, 3 weeks off.  I liked that.  When you just have summer off, it is hard to get in some skiing.
R.I.P. LC and Crockspot.  Miss you guys.
