Who's been shot at?
« on: March 05, 2010, 09:24:36 PM »
In light of the DUmmie thread in the Dumpster about the 22 year old damn near wetting himself over being stopped by a cop and given a ride. I got to wondering if anyone here had ever been shot at. It can of been by accident or on purpose, hunting accidents are included.  :-)

I know there will be a slight skew due to military service but I'm just wondering how much tougher we are compared to DUmmies who cry if their coffee gets cold.

BTW I'm a yes, a half dozen times. Nothing is stranger than the sound of a bullet twittering by you or shotgun pellets coming through the leaves.  :hyper:

I voted no....but a couple of years ago, I was doing a driveby ....and I heard a noise that sounded like a gunshot. Considering where I was...it could have been.  :o

M now takes all my pics in that area.  :-)

This is my only experience:

Quote
Indistinctly, about a block in front of me, walked an old man and a little boy, holding hands.  I had no idea why they might be out and about during an hour, and in such a neighborhood, such as this, but there they were.

I got the vague notion about catching up with them, to inquire about Belfast, but the faster I walked, the faster they hurried on.

Then suddenly they evaporated, disappearing into the alcove of a doorway.

Perhaps they lived there, I thought, although it surely didn't seem like an apartment building to me.

The sidewalk curved, and as I curved with it, I walked into the barrel of a rifle.

(Remember, even today, years later, I am not as acquainted with firearms as I should perhaps be; it could have been a machine-gun or a bazooka, for all I knew; I saw only that it had a long barrel.)

I didn't actually "walk into" it; it was about two-thirds my height, or four feet, away from me, pointed directly at my stomach.  At the trigger end of it was a teenager not even old enough to shave every day, dressed in camouflage and intently staring at my chest.

I froze, not only in the sense of standing still, but turning ice-cold.

I dunno how long it was, two seconds, ten seconds, whatever, but the youth relaxed his gaze, seeing something beyond me, and I turned.

Out of some sort of armored jeep bounced a figure of authority and three other camoflauge-attired youths.

The first thing I noticed--even before height, size, age--was the royal monogram, "EiiR" on his hat.

I heaved a sigh of relief; I had fallen among friends, not foes.

Quote
I expected to be frisked, but nothing of the sort happened, perhaps because cold weather doesn't bother me, and so I was very lightly clothed.

Instead of answering him, I handed him my passport.

He examined the document, and stared at me as if I were Bozo from Outer Space.

Then he started shooting questions at me, too quickly for me to grasp.

I lifted my right hand, to brush aside the hair on the right side of my head, showing the absence of ears, so as to slow him down.

He saw that, and then looked at me again as if I were some sort of Phenomenon Never Seen Before.

"They were shooting at you, you know," he said; "and you were walking right through it.  They were shooting at you."

To this day, I think the gentleman was just bluffing, trying to scare me.

Being deaf, I cannot hear gunfire, but I rather suspect that if I were being shot at, I would know it.

Yep, peppered by my cousin while bird hunting.

If that's part of it, then yeah, I don't know how you couldn't go dove hunting w/out getting some shot rained down on you from time to time.  Half the fun of going is crackin' shells, so sure, you're gonna get peppered.

But actually shot at?  Not that I'm aware.

Once.

Three times too many in my opinion.

Yes.  Three times.  Once on 35, once on 820, and once on 635.  (the 635 one left a mark on my car.)  Dallas is a scary place to drive.  Of course, all three incidents happened in the span of 22 years.

I have found bullet casings outside various homes I have either lived in or been to after a big holiday, but those were just shot in the air, not directed to me.

I've heard the first day of deer hunting is the most dangerous day of the year in the state of Michigan.  When I was at Ford, the entire company shut down for the first day of the season (I think it's November 15).

My Sister-in-Law's sister had a recent mess in Denton TX. Some numbnut shot a gun at his closet floor, he was second floor. She was first floor. The bullet went through the floor and bounced around, flying a couple of inches over sleeping children and lodged into a wall.

Yes, if the child had woken up from the shot, it would likely have hit her.

Obviously the person was booted from the apartment complex, the Denton Record Chronicle managed to get the names and events wrong and I don't know if the guy was ever charged with anything. It was a few months back.

Correct.....and its even worse in NY.....when I lived there, myself and another fool made the mistake of going hunting in a state forest up in the Catskills on opening day......all we did that morning was dodge incoming fire.......we gave up, and got the hell out of there about thirty minutes after sunup, wasn't worth getting killed over.

Once by my cousin with a bb gun. then later on when I was in the 101st I was on a known distance range learning to set up the targets that you pull down and send up after each shot. while taking a break we heard something and well hit the ground and next thing we all knew the wooden frame tha theld the target had a bullet hole in the lower left corner. One of our instructors got on the phone to thank the firing line for letting us know the range was hot.

Edited:I forgot to add the one time I was almost shot while doing a perimiter check at night on the missile site I was stationed on in Italy, Stupid ass was either asleep in his tower or the ynever told him an Americam was making the rounds. I only had a radio and nothing else even though I was supposed to do it wearing my kevlar and LBE and M-16. I think that is why I didn't get a full load of 9mm Submachine gun rounds from some Italian AF private. They only get 2 weeks of training and then get sent to their units. after about 10 minutes of hoping the tool doesn;t shoot me  the Italians called him to let me go and the bad part was It was my last night of doing checks since the next day was my time to start getting ready to PCS back to Ft Campbell.

Been shot at and hit with a BB Gun more than once. If I ever run across that bastard, I'm going to kick his butt into oblivion. (for more reasons than just that)

During hunting season in MN, I was hunting with a bunch of Marines and a Navy Gunner's Mate. I hear a "bang". The next thing is I hear a "wizzzzzzzzzz". I heard two more "bangs" and hit the dirt. Turns out that the Navy Gunner's Mate forgot I was across the road and fired at a deer on his side of the road with me in a field behind that. Fortunately, the field I was in was lower than where he was shooting from.

About 4,500 Euro, according to this page.
