I work a half a day in each of 2 different schools. One school has never made AYP.

If all of the teachers are fired, would I only be half fired?

The counselor in one school is there 2 days a week. Would she be 40% fired?

Can you draw half unemployment? 40%?

Not that it matters but I got a near perfect score on my evaluation this year. What difference would that make if they fired the entire staff?

All teachers fired at R.I. school. Will that happen elsewhere?

One surely hopes so.

2. Time now for those teachers to hold a union meeting...

vote for a walkout strike and then walk until the school board meets with the union to discuss the contract and new proposals.

Let the school admin attempt to fill the classrooms for the last semester.

Pretty difficult to fill 70 classrooms overnight. Scabs maybe.

3. This is what the future is going to be for many school districts

Find some reason to get pissed at the teachers, make unreasonable demands, and when the teachers don't comply, fire all of them and replace them with cheaper, younger, less educated and less experienced teachers.

And another generation will go down the drain.

4. Please, what is AYP?

I read the article and it wasn't clear to me, but it was more than a little chilling to see that the American Enterprise Institute was mentioned.

5. Annual Yearly Progress

This was implemented as a part of No (Rich) Child Left Behind Act.

The NCLB Act of course was the brainchild of dead ted, back in the 1970s.

It never got going, though, until George Bush wanted to be nice to dead ted.

7. I think what is happening in this country to education is a national disgrace.

Right now we have Christie here in New Jersey - a follower of "something for nothing" Reagan - who helped drop California's public schools from number one in the United States to number 46 - trying to destroy our schools, now ranked nationally number 6.

Look out Alabama, we're heading your way!

Our teachers are our most precious investment in our nation's future, and they certainly deserve more status than bankers, stockbrokers and other paper shufflers.

I know that the DUmmies think that the union is the answer to all problems.  I want to point out that not all teachers are in a union.  The former Mrs. Wiggum has taught elementary education for 15+ years and has NEVER been in a union.

If another generation goes down the drain wouldn't that mean that PREVIOUS generations have suffered the same fate and therefore the current crop of teachers aren't doing such a swell job either?

Boards and Administrators are NEA members too?

Many of them probably are.  And there are a LOT of moonbat teachers, but there are also a few good conservatives who generally have to hide their political stripes.

My wife got fed up and quit this year when she was told she had to spend part (1/4) of her math classes TEACHING READING.

She taught the 8th grade.

My daughter came home from school yesterday and said that her teacher got a "pink slip".  She said that the pink slip meant that you may or may not be let go next school year but that you were on notice (because of budget cuts again).  It is not based on performance but seniority, last one in first one out.  7 got a "pink slip".  My daughter's teacher is young but very good.  I go into her class every Wednesday to help and she always seems to engage the kids and gets them excited about learning.  My daughter asked why it mattered who was there first, why it isn't based on who were the best teachers.  Try explaining budget cuts, teachers unions and tenure to an 11 year old.  Then she said, "Our class already has 32 kids, if they take more teachers away how many more will we have in our class?".  Her school back in the Dallas area had 21 last year, the year before that there were 20.  Why can't this POS state look at Texas and get it's shit together?

On a side note.  Back in 1997-98 I worked for a school district in the DFW area in purchasing.  The head of purchasing explained to me that towards the end of the year they have to spend more money because of the "use it or lose it" rule.  They are given X amount of funds every year, if they have money left over at the end of the year they don't get to keep it and the next years budget is decreased.  Seriously what company works like that?  You spend what you need to, not because you are going to lose the funds at the end of the year if you don't.  How does that make sense?  A budget should be based on what you need every year, not what you spent the previous year.  I saw so much waste, they should give the school districts an incentive to not waste money and to come in under budget.  I swear they work back-asswards.  It would seriously piss you off if I told you all of it.  When I came it was a new position, they bought a new chair and a new computer.  There was a warehouse FULL of chairs and used computers.  All the bids came through me and the ordering of supply requests from teachers.  The offices at the school district were decorated to the hilt yet some schools were in need of serious repair.   This wasn't the school district I lived in by the way and it was an upper-middle class area.

This is the first time most public schools have ever faced a real cut. I don't expect them to make any sense of it.

That's the major complaint I hear from teachers here.   The emphasis is on making sure the school gets a passing grade, so they spend all their time prepping kids for the TAKS tests.  Just last week, I listened to the VP rant at some students about cheating on the tests and the required suspension- and then drop the suspensions because the kids had to take the practice tests.  (Turns out the VP was relying on a rumor and the kids didn't cheat after all)

We see this every year at our NAPA store. City, county and state all come in and spend the 'leftovers' in their vehicle maintenence budget.  But instead on stocking up on things they'll actually need-oil, filters, brakes,etc.,-they buy seat covers and air fresheners.  :whatever:

That was one of the main reasons we got our daughter into a Charter, which the "regular" teachers HATE.   :evillaugh:

Payments to foreign governments must be reduced, if the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”

Did half-day teachers graduate from half-colleges....or just get half degrees.....or did they just waste all that money on a halfa$$ degree?

Now when the teacher who left her house at 7:35 traveling 55 mph gets fired ..... does anyone care?

Just my opinion of course.

The elem. school in Alabama my kids attended was awarded the Blue Ribbon School award. Why? Because their test scores were through the roof. How did this occur? They started SAT prep in FIRST grade. Of course they tested well on standardized testing. Every test they took was modeled to look and read as if it was an SAT test. It was crazy. My son still can't write and spell worth a sh*t, and he's 19. Thanks, libs.
There is no virtue in compulsory government charity, and there is no virtue in advocating it. A politician who portrays himself as caring and sensitive because he wants to expand the government's charitable programs is merely saying that he is willing to do good with other people's money. Well, who isn't? And a voter who takes pride in supporting such programs is telling us that he will do good with his own money— if a gun is held to his head.

Yep. My kids rarely had homework, and had to write one, and only ONE, research paper in high school. Two pages, no footnotes, no bibliography, nothing.  I taught them the correct way.  I'm convinced the high drop-out rate for college freshman is because they haven't a clue how much work they'll have to do or even how to do it.
