Just got home from being ass ended in an accident
« on: February 24, 2010, 09:14:37 PM »
I got ass ended by a 17 year old kid about an hour ago. I was sitting at a red light. Two cars in front of me. Light turns green and before any body moved, I got whacked. His car (Dodge Intrepid) was totaled. Hood was buckled half way up to the windshield. Grill and fan/radiator was trashed. He was 17 and coming from Swimming practice. I hope he wasn't texting or on the phone. We pulled into a CVS parking lot. He called his father, who drove up to the scene. His mother then shows up. No arguments. No accusations. No ranting, raving or DUmmying. He was a pleasant kid.

I had called the Police. I shoot every Wed night and had to inform the Police that I had two loaded guns on me. While waiting for the Police to arrive, we checked out my truck for damages. I have a 3/4 ton Chevy 4X4 pick up. The car had hit where my trailer hitch was. It went under my bumper and broke my harness where I hook up my travel trailer. The police arrived and took the statements. She asked me if I wanted to go to the Hospital. I told her no. I told her that I was fine. (Damn. No lawsuit money for me). After about five minutes, the Police lady brought my my papers, told me that she appreciated my telling them that I had a loaded gun on me and told me that I could go.

Still a little shaken up, but am at home with the wife and Dog. Dogs are great for calming one down.

I had a sore back last time I got rear-ended.  Advil did the trick.

Thanks. His father appreciated that fact that I didn't put the screws to the kid. I just wanted to get home.

And good to hear the kid is too...Intrepid vs Chevy truck is not very good odds.

The main thing is that you were not hurt; a vehicle can be replaced. The time I got rear ended I had such a severe whiplash, I was afraid to move because I thought my neck was broken. Totaled my 2 month old new car but I was glad that my injuries were minor.

Thankfully nobody was seriously injured.

Thur AM.

My left shoulder and wrist are sore as all get out. I had my left hand on the steering wheel. The jolt had to have done it. I imagine that they will be better a a couple of days. Right now they hurt.

I have to call my insurance co. today. No fault laws suck. I'm responsible for my damages.

You know, I think it's a credit to the basic decency of the population of the Cave that no one has stepped up to spike this oh-so-tempting lob.

Yet.

I don't know what law protects Texans from stupid lawsuits, but sign me up.  This particular friend lives in Oklahoma.  The guy who sued my friend was claiming my friend had no right to be idling at a stop sign.  Crazy people, they are everywhere.

I was talking about the rear-end liability law, in Texas.  I hit a car once, that hit a car, that hit a car, that hit a car, and so on, I had to pay for them all.  And, I was promptly dismissed from having USAA insurance.

There was a few cars in front of me, but I left room while stopped at the light. You never know when you'll need to make a fast break to the left or to the right. Because of this, I didn't hit the car in front of me.

I'd probably recommend getting yourself checked  out by a medical professional. I didn't hurt at the time of my accident and started hurting later that afternoon. It turns out I wound up with a whiplash injury that resulted in a fusion to C3-C5 in my neck.
