Joseph Stack as a liberal folk hero

It was supposed to be right-wingers, tea baggers, and militia types who were the unindicted, uninvolved, uninformed and unaffiliated co-conspirators in Stack's kamikaze attack on an Internal Revenue Service office last week. The WashPost's Jonathan Capehart is "struck by how his alienation is similar to that we're hearing from the extreme elements of the Tea Party movement." The Southern Poverty Law Center's Intelligence Project hits the perfect storm of journalistic clichés by detecting a "perfect storm" of anti-government militias and "so-called Patriot groups." Daily Kos claims (without evidence) links and ties to the tea party movement.

But a strange counterforce has been developing, visible in the comment boards on lefty websites and Facebook. The left's creepy efforts to turn Stack into a club with which to hit advocates of lower taxes and smaller government keep getting met with responses, from other lefties, along these lines: "I read his manifesto, and you know, a lot of his points make sense."

But the left's lionization of Stack (coupled always with coy admissions that his methods may have gone too far) edges into creepiness with Rich Benjamin's analysis of the multiple murderer's "real populist grievances."

His daughter is calling him a hero.

Shep Smith just interviewed the son of the IRS employee that was killed. His dad was a 2-time VietNam vet, and worked for the IRS for 30 years. He was the office manager.

Mr Hunter's son referred to the daughter as "the nut didn't fall far from the tree"....when asked what he thought of the daughter referring to her father as a hero.....
Just hand over the chocolate...back away slowly...far away....and you won't get hurt....

HA I just heard on Talk Radio that his daughter is living in Norway.  Tell me again that they weren't liberals.

Joseph Stack’s Daughter Calls Her Dad “A Hero”
POSTED IN LIBERALAND BY ALAN
• FEBRUARY 22, 2010, 11:04 AMET • 4 COMMENTS »

Samantha Bell, the daughter of the pilot who burned down his house and then flew a plane into a federal building targeting IRS employees calls her dad “a hero.”

“I think too many people lay around and wait for things to happen. But if nobody comes out and speaks up on behalf of injustice, then nothing will ever be accomplished,” Samantha Bell, Joseph Stack’s daughter from his first marriage, told “Good Morning America” in a phone interview that aired Monday morning.

Vernon Hunter, a 61-year-old IRS collections agent and Vietnam veteran was killed by Stack’s actions.

Even so, his daughter says he should be respected. Stack is a hero, Bell said, “because now maybe people will listen.”

“I have many cases of people I know that are suffering in the hands of the government and people literally dying because they are not getting the help they need,” she said.

Bell did say the attack was “inappropriate” and “wrong.”

“He may have been somewhat frustrated, but he was a very quiet man,” Bell continued. “The father I knew was a loving, caring, devoted man who cherished every moment with me and my three children, his grandchildren… This man who did this was not my father.

“He must’ve kept this bottled up all these years.”

Bell moved to Norway because she couldn’t get health care when she became pregnant.  Ironically, Bell says even though she pays more taxes there, she gets more for her money.

She is a total lib.....as was her father.

Edited to add:  How much would it cost to move to Norway vs just paying out of pocket for the birth of your child?  We paid out of pocket when we had our 2nd (we had insurance, it didn't cover maternity).  I had her at 7:58 at night and went home before 9:00 am the next morning to avoid another day of charges.  She moved to Norway for other reasons besides not having healthcare when she was pregnant.  She is a total socialist.  The nut doesn't fall far from the tree.

This seems to be the same militia mentality that led to Ruby Ridge and the Oklahoma City Bombing. I recognize it well from reports I made during the early 1990s.

Napolitano was right, extreme right-wing violence is escalating.

And this IS political terrorism, pure and simple. Not paying taxes should be treated the same as treason….Because it IS.

 :banghead:

Even from his own manifesto, it doesn't sound like he was a victim of injustice at all, just a dedicated tax chiseler who tried one way after another of cheating his way out of paying taxes, and kept getting slapped with the consequences of his own wishful thinking and greed.  And apparently a man who had a remarkably poor record of learning from the adverse consequences of his own voluntary actions.

There are plenty of idiots both left and right who will get spun up exactly the same way about the supposed invalidity of the 16th Amendment, or its interpretation, or other dipshit theories about avoiding taxes like declaring you and your pals a 'Church' (Which the selfish shithead apparently tried).

These idiots don't belong just to one side of the spectrum or the other, they are really anarchists rather than Liberals (Who can't fund their myriad wasteful social programs without lots of tax revenue) or Conservatives (Who recognize the need for shared sacrifice but have a much higher threshold for what their tax money should buy).

BEG, these idiots are all over the map on what they want from the government, the 'Anarchist' part comes in when the government wants something from them, be it income taxes, sales and use tax, or military service.  Even the ones who 'Just want to be left alone' want a sound system of exchange, a guarantee of protection from violence at the hands of criminals or foreign enemies, and goods and resources only an organized and governed society can provide.  Oh, they are all quite content to enjoy the benefits provided by the service and taxes of others, while pretending it's some sort of naturally-occurring resource like air, but they don't want to have to contribute anything to that themselves.  They are scum, from tax cheats to draft dodgers, one and all, I have no respect for any of them including those who make bizarre 'Constitutional' Conservative pretenses - which is an outrageous false pretense, since the Constitution is the ultimate social contract, and these hogs-at-the-trough are strictly cynical exploiters, not participants engaged in furthering a just society for the mutual benefit of all.

In case I have been too wordy:  Joe Stack was a low-life entitlement-minded chiseling piece of shit that deserved to come up a hundred feet or so shorter on his last final approach in life, and ditto for everyone who thinks like him or admires him.

I don't consider myself to be an idiot.  But I do wonder if the 16th was indeed properly ratified IAW Article V.

You won't see me trying to kill IRS agents/employess about it though.

Sounds like you just gave the best description of libertarianism I've ever heard.
