Well, as of 4:35 a.m. central time 3:35 a.m. mountain time, the results are that the Obamanation despite winning Mississippi, garnered 18 delegates, and Messalina Agrippina 12.
There's much said about that Messalina Agrippina needs to win 97% of the remaining delegates, but what's not said is that the Obamanation needs to win 75% of the remaining delegates.
Eighteen out of 30 is nowhere near 75%.
It's going to continue being a wild, raucous time, and so everybody sit back and enjoy the show.
no one is going to have the requisite number of delegates when they get to their convention. at that point, a lot of things could happen. does the leader in delegates also lead in the popular vote? does the leader have the lead because he racked up a ton of delegates in those ridiculous caucuses in a bunch of red states that the democrats will never win in the general? personally, I think that
hillary actually has a pretty strong argument in insisting that she has won in the big battleground states that the the dems will need in november.
but it will come down to the superdelegates. and unless I am misunderstanding the myriad rules governing the manner in which the superdelegates officially express their preference (which is entirely possible), I think it is pretty much up to a committee (I forget the name) to decide how the superdelegates convene to vote. so, I had this thought; what if they decide that the superdelegates vote en masse in a closed session by secret ballot? it would conceal the inevitable train wreck from the press and public scrutiny, and would give the superdelegates the cover they need to make an unpopular choice. and rest assured that for most of the superdelegates,
any choice they make will be unpopular to 50% of their constituents.
it is ironic that the democrats, who have so tied themselves into knots with this ridiculously complicated process of proportionally distributing their delegates in order to appear to be more "democratic", are being forced into basically anointing one candidate or the other because their "democratic process" has completely failed them.
