By state law they are not allowed to be in school past June 9th (don't ask me why...that was law before I moved here). No idea how they will make up the time...they made up a couple days by taking away a couple scheduled days off. I guess for the rest they will have to ask for a pass from the state dept of ed?
Years ago (1993), when we had a wicked storm in March, and the kids were out of school close to 3 weeks in some areas....I know TN had to do something about the days missed.
The state ended up "forgiving" most of the time.
I think it was around then, that TN made June 9th, the last day that kids could go to school. The reason behind that date was that was the last day before summer session starts at college level and so many teachers go to summer school. It also had to do with summer school sessions for kids to get in enough time before fall classes started and still have some break time.
The state also implemented "Saturday" school...which has not been working out so well.
If all snow days were used up, then Saturday school starts. If the kids miss a day during the week, but are in school on Friday, they also attend on Saturday school. It's been bad for the kids that work on Saturday...as it is mandatory that they attend the full school day even if they have jobs....which makes it bad for businesses that rely on HS students for Saturday positions.
