Geraldine Ferraro went and did it. Here's what she said:

Gee, lets reword that a little and see how it goes...
If Hillary were not a former first lady, not only would she not be in this position, she wouldn't be a US Senator.
Oh, that's why the Clinton campaign doesn't like what ol' Geraldine had to say...
Looked at differently, it highlights the unalterable fact that the Obama was actually elected in Illinois as a state legislature before being elected to the US Senate and immediately beginning to run for the Presidency, you know, like Hillary...

Well, yes, Gerry's right in the fact that candidates are the byproduct of identity politics - his because of his race(s), hers because of her gender(s) - but you could say the same about Ferraro herself.

Didn't Ferraro get elected to Congress on her own? (a few times?) In any case your right about the whole identity politics thing. Democrats have always been a creepy mob in search of a fuhrer IMO. fwiw, Hilary and Obama are a lot more Benito than Adolf it seems to me.

Didn't Ferraro say that the only reason she was ever on the ticket as VP was because she's a woman?

Yes, she actually said that right before the opther quote - that she would've never been Walter Mondale's running mate if she had been Gerald Ford.

She's resigned from the Hillary camp now, don't know if she was asked to leave or was so disgusted she just up and quit. With these two involved, charges of sexism and racism are  going to fly all year long.
