Oh my.

This is perhaps the most entertaining campfire that's been lit on Skins's island today; predictably, it's a big one, but well worth reading in its entirety, giving the wide range of primitive in-fighting.

Original message

Surgeon snaps over woman's 'lifestyle' choice and tells her to go on a f*****g diet.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2010/02/11/2816384.h...

A surgeon in New Zealand has received a dressing down for swearing at a severely obese patient.

The female patient made the complaint after a very tense consultation with her surgeon last year.

The New Zealand Herald newspaper reports the doctor said "f..." at least three times after the 44-year-old obese woman told him she did not like the word "diet" and preferred the term "lifestyle".

The doctor told his patient she was "going on a f...ing diet".

The woman was on a waiting list for gastric bypass surgery.

After she complained about his swearing, she received a letter from the surgeon saying they no longer had a "therapeutic relationship" and her name had been removed from his waiting list.

The doctor has admitted using bad language.

New Zealand's Health and Disability Commissioner said the conduct was insulting and unprofessional and he has recommended the surgeon attend a communication skills course.

15. YAAAAY!

It's been at least 24 hours since the latest fat-bashing thread. It's amazing to me that some of you can last even that long.

Of course, far be it from me to suggest that evidently, the licensing board in New Zealand found the doctor's behavior unprofessional. It's more important that he put the smackdown on another fat person. After all, it's cool, isn't it?

20. YAAAAY!

Its been at least 24 hours since I have been able to say I dont care what you think.

Now, go find something else to complain about.

The above two primitive comments are a sample of the treat that's in store.

40. MOST people on a waiting list for gastric bypass
are already on a diet, have seen a nutritionist at least once, and are seeing a psychologist. The insurance companies that cover the surgery demand all the above. Most doctors will not consent to performing surgery without pre-care as well. They monitor the patient to see if they are able to control food intake prior to surgery.
The DUmp's Miss Piggy seems to have overlooked the detail that this story came from New Zealand. That's a couple of big islands covered with sheep east of Australia, i.e., it's not the United States, so they have enlightened free medical care for all, with no silly insurance requirements. This doctor is like the O-docs the DUmmies want. He's a government employee, just like the DUmmies want for all of us, although he probably isn't a member of AFSCME like O-docs probably would be. It also means that since she's now off his waiting list, she has to go onto some other New Zealand O-doc's list, so she will have another initial evaluation appointment in maybe two or three years from now. But it will be free.

Exactly, the content of his message was spot on.  It was just delivered very unprofessionally.  It seems the board reacted appropriately.  It doesn't seem that he is being punished, but they are having him take communication classes, so that he can tell a fat woman she needs to go on a diet more effectively  :p

Yep. He talks like he doctors sheep in his spare time and he probably does because sheep farmers actually pay.

We don't know how many times the Dr. had this talk with the lard butt. It's possible that this subject was broached several times and nice talk didn't work.

You have to admit that he got his point across.
Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

Speaking  of lardasses, we haven't heard from the Las Vegas Cetacean for a week. He was despairing over his brazillion-calorie indiscretion, but bragging about pumping his recumbent bike, which cost Jeanette several hundred hours at the phone scam warehouse, at a rate that would exhaust Lance Armstrong. Whenever he's absent for a few days, I begin to suspect that his heart has exploded, as it soon must.
