Sunday Morning
« on: January 31, 2010, 04:55:11 AM »
It's a balmy 8 degrees this morning with clear skies. Maybe I'll get to see some sunshine today, even if it's only when I go outside for a smoke break at work. That damn groundhog had better predict spring is coming sooner rather than later.

I rented Terminator: Salvation and the latest Harry Potter movie.  The Terminator movie was entertaining, even though some of the dialog was pretty bad.  The Half-Blood Prince is okay so far.

After having the headaches from hell all day yesterday (migraine?), today so far I'm pain free.

Except for the fact that my back door is jammed or frozen or something and the dorrknob won't turn.  Which meant I had to shlep the dogs out FRONT this morning to go potty.  Which meant I had to go out with them.  BEFORE I had my tea.

We got about 3-4 inches of snow, but it's a lighter weight snow, so it should melt off if it ever gets above freezing.  Sun is out today, though.

Baseball started for my youngest yesterday....yes, it was 18 degrees outside, and snowing, but his tournament team got together for some batting practice and a few fielding drills.  We were in a big huge garage/workshop type building that had a woodstove thing in it, so it brought the temp up to about 35.
I love baseball!

Low of 0 this morning, so far we're up to a balmy 10 at 10 am.

Getting last minute stuff cleaned up, checkbook balanced, then treating myself to a breakfast out.

Not watching the Pro Bowl.  Major suckage.  Would rather punch myself in the yam bag.

Hubby has a big hair up his ass this morning.   He decided to up grade the house with new facets and shower heads.

You may be surprised to know just how much these darn things cost.  He came home from Home Depot with all this stuff and on installation he found other upgrades or repairs that needed done.

2 bathrooms 3 sinks, all had to be taken off for new grouting, then there was the pipes, then the new faucets   etc.

Horrible no wonder a plumber gets high pay.

I don't know what has gotten into my guy lately, he has a mind set of upgrading the house on the small things.

Sunday is quiet here except for the banging in the bathrooms.

My grape plant is doing well, I planted concord grape seeds from the grapes I got in Octember, just spit out the seeds into a pot of dirt and they are now 2 feet high.   I am going to try orange seeds to see what will happen.

Tempter is 12 degrees outside, sun is out and no one in family is in jail.    Peacefull.

Waiting for the coffee to finish brewing here.  I think I'm going to try to go to the nursery today to get some stuff to plan in my vegetable garden.  Unfortunately, I'm still on crutches, so I'll telling people what and where to plant rather than planting it myself, but it will be planted.  :-)

What is this "nursery" of which you speak?  I seem to remember hearing about these, but they are only open between April and September.  Surely this is not a REAL nursery, open year 'round?

I live in California, of course it is open year round   Besides, it is almost spring here.    I'm actually really behind on starting seeds, the average last frost date her is late February.

No more peeled grapes or handcuffs for you.  You speak of spring in January and bitch about cold?

Hmmmm...where were you when I lost half my seedlings to frost in JUNE?!?!?

I'm actually somewhat envious of all you good folks that experience "weather". Everyday it's the same dang thing around here. 64 and sunny with a couple of puffy clouds for varieties sake.

Look at that. Dawn, dusk, it doesn't matter. It's always the same. Sigh.

Well, it's no longer morning...almost 3 pm...pretty good day so far. $20 winner at GP. $10 winner at FG. Couple lower priced horses. It's a living.  :-)

Alrighty....the snow was pretty.

Now ....it's just dangerous.

We got more snow yesterday afternoon and must have gotten some during the night because it looked different.....along with some drizzly rain/sleety stuff.

The sheriff's department declared a level 4 emergency here last night....I-40 on the east side of town was only 1 lane...it's 3 lanes both directions. The 4 laner that runs along the west side of the county from the county south of us to Oak Ridge was declared impassible. As was the main road that bisects the county from the University all the way to the west county line.

All that preciptation yesterday turned to wicked wicked ice about 7pm.....and it was everywhere.

I think almost every church in town cancelled their services today.

Today...it was beautiful...crystal clear blue skies, sunny, white white snow on the ground. Melted some. Tonight....it's going to be 18. All that stuff's going to freeze again.

Surprisingly, they are only delaying school 2 hours in the morning....but the teachers are supposed to be there on time. When the first bus full of kids slides off one of the tertiary roads in the morning ....all hell's going to break loose on the school board.....

Had a wonderful afternoon of tv watching between HGTV, DIY, the food channel, FLN and Style....watching decorating. landscaping, and cooking.

Made dinner...baked cookies and now relaxing on here....ohhhhh what a great Sunday!!!!  :-)
Just hand over the chocolate...back away slowly...far away....and you won't get hurt....

Did you avoid the ice storm part of it, the nasty stuff that takes down trees and  power lines?
