Wal-Mart is okay as long as you don't need fresh produce or meat... I'd go somewhere else for that.  You CAN get fresh plantains at the W-M here, so that's not too bad.

Congratulations?

There is an Aldi down the street from here.  I was there once, but wasn't impressed.  Maybe it was the run-down building and generally shabby area the store is in, but it didn't look any different from other dollar-store and bulk grocery stores around here.  Considering the neighborhood, I think I'd gladly pay higher prices to NOT go there.

We've got one about five miles from me, on US 9.  I've been there once.  This week, my wife was mentioning some of the prices for fresh vegetables (yes, I knew enough to use the full word) as "steals."  She's right.  Payday is this week, and we'll be stocking up.

I guess I got distracted by the pallet of Ramen Noodles sitting in the middle of the floor, keeping an eye out for rats, and the screaming anchor-babies running around while their mothers ignored them to notice anything positive about the store.

Shame, it used to be a nice neighborhood 15 years ago.  Now, not so much.

I get meat and produce at our Wal-Mart, and I've never had a problem with it. Prices are better than the local grocery stores, and the quality is the same if not better.

Of course, I'd love to have a Wegman's closer....*drool*

Our Walmart also has pretty good meats, but their prices are a little higher than the other store we also shop at.

The closest Wegmans to me is 2 hours away. :(
I was shocked when I went in the one in Fredericksburg. An outstanding selection and incredible customer service. Is it to good to be true?

Our walmart has great meat and produce too.  A lot of the produce comes from local farmers in the spring and summer.

And of course pointing out getting stuck behind a family with a vision card paying for allowed items with that and then whipping out cash for the booze and smokes is not allowed over there.
You see, I don't care you how feel.  I really don't.  More importantly, neither does anyone else.  Only about 200 people on a planet of 7 billion actually care about your feelings, and that's if you're lucky.  The sooner you grasp this lesson, the better off you will be.  And since almost no one gives a damn what you do, say, think, or feel, appealing to your feelings when you encounter differences of opinion is not only illogical, but useless.

I got behind a chick at Sam's (when I was in a wicked hurry, of course), who proceeded to pay in small increments over several debit or gift cards.  $5 here, $12 on another, $7 on another, etc.

The annoying thing about Aldi's is the no bags.  If you don't remember to bring your own, you'll have all these various items rolling around your car floor.  I was quite happy with their produce quality and prices, and the meats (like a pork roast) were just fine.

There use to be a store here that gave their boxes away for customers to use, it was pretty cool. You could buy a paper sack for a nickel. That was interesting.

NO! It is real!

They are consistently one of the best companies to work for (per Fortune or Forbes, one of those two) and not only are their prices good, their customer service is...phenomenal. I have never, ever had a bad experience there. Their store brand is oftentimes better than the name brands!

Wegmans is my happy place. I happily travel half an hour (and pay a $2 toll both ways!) to shop there.

I completely agree -- Wegmans IS excellent!  They're competitive with the other supermarkets, and yes, their store brand items are very high quality (no I don't work for them!).

Wow.  I went to a Wegmans a couple of years ago when I was visiting my Step-Mom.  Just south of Woodbridge, VA on 95.  Man.  Now that was a store.  I have seen some pretty dang cool grocery stores.  Wegmans beats them all.

My cousin in New Jersey uses Wegmans as her regular grocery store. She is dead to me now. LOL

heh.  My Step-Mom only goes there to meet a friend for lunch, or when she goes to Quantico, to get something special, so I still talk to her.

If they had Wegmans here, I would go very rarely.  The durn thing would be packed, and I don't like crowds of people more than I like cool grocery stores.

Last night at Publix we got behind a woman who had her groceries and stuff on the conveyor and separated into 3 orders. One was for food stamps the other WICK I believe and the other was stuff she had to use her own money for. Now if a DUmmy got behind her would he or she bitch that it took forever to ring her up? I guarantee if the dummy bitched at DU about it he or she would get trashed by the other primitives.
