Duggars “won’t rule out having baby #20 - Why Michelle Duggar can’t say, “We’re done!”

Edited on Fri Jan-29-10 08:21 PM by Shallah Kali
I am posting this here in general chat because the Quiverfull movement is both a political as well as a religious movement.

http://nolongerquivering.com/2010/01/29/people-magazine...

After the partial uterine rupture, it seemed so obvious to everyone that I ought to be done for sure. How many times did I hear: Surely God will let you off the hook now ~ He would want you to protect your health to ensure that you’ll be around to care for the seven already-born children He has blessed you with?

snip

You see, once a woman’s mind grasps the concept of “trusting the Lord” with her reproductive life ~ absolutely nothing is ever simple or obvious again. The Quiverfull philosophy is an alluring and powerful spell ~ and the woman so enchanted feels the euphoria of the “Big Happy Family,” she is seduced by a vision of chivalrous men and genteel ladies, tempted by the promise of God’s protection and provision, and she knows the sheer ecstasy of inhaling deeply the ambrosial smell of yet another newborn.

So it’s no surprise that despite preeclampsia, gallstones, and a micro-preemie baby, Michelle’s still determined to leave it up to God whether there’ll be a twentieth Duggar baby or not. That she ought to stop now is glaringly obvious to everyone but Michelle and the Quiverfullers who are similarly beguiled. Having been there and done that (got pregnant twice again after the partial uterine rupture), I’m inclined to go easy on the lady. I think Michelle is doing her best to life consistently according to the worldview of her firmly held Christian beliefs.

But I’m not backing off on my efforts here at NLQ to expose the delusion which has Michelle so captivated that she’s continuing to take unneccesary and irresponsible risks. Bill Gothard, whose “biblical family values” have strongly influenced the Duggars, has never been married and has no children. This man, along with other Quiverfull leaders such as Doug Phillips, Doug Wilson, Voddie Baucham, etc. need to be held accountable for the teachings they are calling “biblical” ~ teachings that trap women in a mental headspace in which common sense and gut feelings are to be distrusted and ignored.

17. I think preeminently, it's about men controlling women and removing any possibility of a woman

existing in her own right as an individual
.

This is a husband PROVING he owns the women, completely.

Because all "normal" women normally choose to murder their kids unborn, of course.

"The Duggars said they prayed for Michelle’s blood pressure to come down, but when that didn’t happen, they agreed to the surgery."

God wants you to have 19 kids, but then gives you preeclampsia, presumably because he has marked you for death and decided that your 19 children should be motherless. But then when the praying for your life doesn't work (because it's thwarting God's will), it's OK for the doctors, whose medical education you have reviled and sought to undermine, to do a c-section.

So tired of fundies of convenience in our society. If you don't want to accept evolution, you don't get to benefit from all the things that resulted from it (like anti-biotics, GM food, animals or plants that have been selected for desirable characteristics...)

Duggars undermine doctors by having kids??  OK...

If fundies get to to without all the things that result from evolution, so we also get to do without all those that cling to the belief while still insisting that the next step is all the fault of humans?

23. I bet they all love their guns too. What good is a Fundie Army if it's not armed?

It's not difficult to see where this is going. They are too stupid and backward to compete against normal people. Christian / No Science home schooling and no higher education for half of your population leaves brute force and numbers as your way to the top.

Bibles, guns and babies
!

Yeah, it's terrible when those fundies actually refuse to let the public schools brainwash their kids into the government-established religions.  Especially when you realize that the education that comes with the government religion is so pathetic.  Fundies would scare me, too...if I weren't one.

28. Jesus, she's a puppy mill!!

I really think that they're ought to be some tax on people who choose to have more than 3 children. Tax them for the extra natural resources they use and the extra strain they put on the earth and the environment.
And this tax should be a graduated increase for each child over 3. Her body, her choice of course, but they should have to pay for the extra strain on resources used.

The liberal dream, in a nutshell...we can make everyone just like us simply by taking away all their money and keeping if for ourselves!!  Of course, you have to attain a maturity level somewhere past toddlerhood to understand why other people don't do everything you want...

It's a womens choice isn't it?

I guess they fail to see the irony of attacking someone for choosing the wrong 'choice'.

While I wont say they don't have the right to choose, twenty is a bit much.  Seriously, they can't physically take care of the kids they already have themselves (I am not talking financially).  I think they put too much responsibility on their older children.  Having said that, I have no say in what they do...it is their choice.   I find it ironic that the DU'ers who are on welfare bitch that the government has a say in their life yet they feel that a family that is not on welfare should be punished by the government just because of the number of children (probably more to do with their religion than the children I'm sure).  Irony thy name is DU.

Their children will turn out better than any of the DU'ers children could ever hope to be.  I bet you 20 years from now we wont be hearing about any of their kids on drugs or remotely like anyone on DU.

LMAO How would you like people to refer to some of your kids as "the vast majority".   :lmao:  That right there says you have a butt load of kids.

More importantly, they appear to be within their means, which is more than can be said for the 'Octo-mom' on the moon-bat side of the equation.  Or most DUmbasses either, for that matter.

I agree.

I have seen them interviewed on various shows and those kids seemed to be very happy. They live well in a beautiful home, they are home-schooled and from what I understand are all performing at a higher grade level than they would be in a traditional school setting, once they are old enough they start music lessons and play a variety of instruments...and they are devoted to each other.

As far as the mother continuing to have children.....I personally think she's crazy. While I totally support the fact that it is her choice to have as many children as she wants (since they can obviously afford them) ....I think she is becoming highly irresponsible in jeopardizing her health. With the problems she had with the last child...several of which could have become life threatening .... not only to her, but to the unborn child....to continue to have more children is stupid.

She has given birth to 19 children ....and needs to be a mother to them.

She can't do that if she's dead.

No matter how happy those children are with their lives....without their mother....would be very traumatic for them....regardless of their age.

If the Duggars were on the dole the DUmmies would be the first ones defending their right to procreate especially if there were 19 different fathers involved.  They would be demading that 'more' be done to support their lifestyle.

The Duggars can have all they want AFAIC so long as they can provide for them.  I somehow doubt that 19 children are truly getting the best of their parents emotional involvement, but if they're making it work, so be it.

DUmmies can't fathom that the vast majority of pro-lifers do, indeed, believe in and utilize birth control.  I agree with everyone who says that Michelle Duggar can have as many kids as she likes, because she can support them WITHOUT government assistance, but she also needs to realize that if she jeopardizes her own life, her existing children will suffer.

Now, onto the DUmmies:

Once again they prove that "pro choice" is just a term whether we or anyone agrees with what the Duggar's do is irrelevant. Last I checked we still had  a few constitutional rights left. By the time lord 0 is done we have none left though.

On the flip side if she was going to have her 20th abortion they would be congratulating her.

Just based on statistics the odds are pretty good that one or two of the kids will have problems.

I'm amazed that they don't have any with serious health issues, except of course the youngest.  They must have some good genes.

I know that statistics are against them but for some reason I feel these kids are going to turn out fine.  I wonder after experiencing what it was like having so many brothers and sisters if they will choose to do it the same way.

I think the oldest has already started.  He's a guy, it will be interesting if the girls follow in their mom's footsteps.

I was one of five siblings, but I don't think I thought "hey I'd like to have five kids".   As a Catholic, though I do believe in accepting the life that comes my way.  As it turned out though, I did have four pregnancies and I dearly wish I still had all four of those babies with me instead of just the two.
