It's been a year or so ago...but I remember reading an article that you should not use the same anti-bacterial soaps/cleaners all the time....particularly the stuff like Purell. That you should switch brands each time you buy new, because of the "super bug" thing.
Apparently the formulas are just enough different that they go after different bacteria. By switching out, you get the ones that aren't always zapped.
I keep a couple of different brands of the spray stuff for my kitchen counters under the sink. I spray down the frequent use areas(sinks and stove) at least once a day and just change off which one I grab.
Anyone remember when moms or grandmas kept a Kleenex up their sleeve and spit on it to wash something off our face..
Debk is right about germs mutating, so do some bugs, one has to keep changing the brand of bug spray each year. Even those electric gizmo's one plugs in to send some kind of subhuman hearing to keep the bugs or mice out etc they have to be moved about the room every 2-3 months as the critters will build up a tolerance to the sound.
Water can get nasty in a refrigerate with an ice maker if the filter is not changed every few months.
Between bugs and chemicals I will take the bugs any day. Awhile ago Hubby and I got what we thought was the stomach flu, then my dogs began to barf. We called the water company and they came out and tested our water and found it to be OK.
Something was making us ill but we had no idea what. A friend gave me a 6 piece set of designer glasses tinted black and one day when I unloaded the dishwasher I saw inside them a weird film. We took the washer apart and found the hot water tube was semi- blocked. the detergent we used was not being completely removed from our glasses, dishes and silverware. Chemicals were making us ill.
Everything we buy today has chemicals, top brand sheet sets advise the sheets be washed before use. Hubby gets a head ache when he brings his suit home from the dry cleaners, I now remove the plastic covering and air it out for a few days.
At one time there was a product on the market for you to soak salad makings in to remove any bugs, I really did not like the taste of the salad so I now throw everything into a big pot add Luke warm water and a couple of spoonfulls of white vinegar and rinse until the water comes clear.
White vinegar is cheap, less then $2.00 a gallon and will clean counters, windows floors, toilets, sinks shower and tub. BTW I was told by a doctor to add a cup of white vinegar to bath water to protect against yeast and urinary infections.
A rinse of a cup of vinegar every few weeks will strip out the buildup of soap and conditioner in ones hair, the smell goes away when the hair drys. Also good to defoliate skin.
I remember as a little kid living in Panama Mom coming home from the Commissary with food that smelled like bleach. It was bleach, and to top it off Mom emptied the bags of food upside down on the table just in case there was a spider or something crawly hanging out in the bag.
Formaldehyde, Ah yes that wonderful stuff. Big hoohaa about that in VA. some years back. Butchers were keeping old meat bright and Rosy, looking its best by adding it to hamburger etc.
Only 5 years ago a Chicken place closed down when it was ratted out by a disgruntled worker for soaking outdated chickens in bleach. Darn I miss that place, never got sick from their chicken and the coldslaw was fantastic.
Makes me wonder how we all live so long with all the bugs and chemicals out there.
