We have arrived. Next stop, hell.
   
I wrote this back in Sept. We are no longer a few clicks left of fascism. We have arrived at our destination. Now where will the corporations and their congressional prostitutes take us next? Easy one - Hell on Earth.

Rahm Emanuel still believes he can coast through 2010 based on good will alone. Its an outrageous gamble.

The right wing is brilliant at transformational politics. We can post all day how they are assholes and turn a blind, disingenuous eye to our own party bullshit.

Republicans believe in shock and awe. It works. They put their best blow-hards out front. Carpet bombing us 24 hours a day with extremist rhetoric. This softens us up. It desensitizes us to the point where we start accepting these extreme views as uniquely American and legitimate. They can do this because they own so many media outlets. They did a similar thing when they purchased Christian, Inc. in 1980 or so. When they bought the jesus trademark, they bought an outlet for a weekly address to millions of voters. We've all watched right-wing christian nut jobs lecturing about the greatness of Bush and Cheney and the evils of democrats. Palin still got a scary number of votes.

Now how about the democrats? Well, Rahm and Obama know that a majority of people don't like extremes at either end of the political spectrum. So they see an opportunity to ride in the slipstream created by the right wing blow hards. They let the right wing do all the heavily lifting, and they move just the slightest bit to the left and suddenly they are seen as "moderate centrists". This is called political relativism. It looks like we are moving left, but it is just a few clicks left of fascism. (you are in a car, passing another car, the other car looks like it is going in opposite direction, but both cars are still speeding to the cliff).

And this is how things like torture, wiretapping, wall street fraud, corporations running their own candidates and financing them, and the idea that insurance companies are exclusively allowed to set public health policy are legit. These are ideas that run afoul of every intent of the constitution. And democrats are willing to compromise ethics, morality and constitutional protections for the "preservation" of their party. Believe it or not Democrats are a corporation like GM. They are re-inventing themselves, having lost the battle to keep corporations out of policy making. Democrat, Inc and Republican, Inc need to take care of themselves (and corporate benefactors) first. The public is near the bottom of current priorities.

What this means is that as long as the right wing is pushing the envelope, democrats don't have to work very hard. We'll pick up republican voters who don't like the extremist nonsense. But in turn, these new democrats will demand republican policy priorities. No problem. Its all about "winning" and some people are just so happy to see a democrat elected (yeah for team Obama!) they don't care if that democrat is actually promoting policies against public benefit nor do they care that the policies are exactly more of the same stuff from the previous republican.

With the right-wing doing all the hard work for our corporate designed government, the dems can "coast" on the perception of good will. The brilliant part is that its win-win for republicans. Even when they don't have a majority in congress or exec, they still indirectly control and have final word on policy decisions.

And while republicans are making so much noise about evil Obama, privately they think Obama is their chump and they are very glad to have him on board. It is a diabolical brilliance.

In absolute truth, the most amazing thing about all this pain and depression is that we still are completely under Democratic control.  They've only dropped one person from a filibuster-proof majority, and they're freaking out.     I didn't see anything even approaching this kind of fear and panic from the right even while the left held ALL the power.  Seriously, it's like watching toddlers realize they still can't get every toy in Toys R Us.

.R.I.P. America....Land of the not so free.........
   
Once we were a beacon of hope and light to the world.
Now people are trying to find a way to move out.
Once we had freedom because we had a Bill of Rights...
Now our judges say they will not stop the government from spying on everyone and anyone.
Once we had a Constitution but our government passed the Patriot Act and now we have nothing left but a "God damned piece of paper." with most of the rights and checks and balances stripped out..or just ignored.
Once we had jobs...but our government outsourced those jobs and now we have families living on the streets and returning vets and young kids and family providers killing themselves (and often taking their family with them unto death)because they see no future.
Once we had small businesses but now we have mega monster stores and shops on main street sit empty.
Once we had Banks where we thought our money was safe...now they are robbing us to bail the crooks in the banks out.
Once we had family doctors we could trust. Now insurance companies run our health care and it's all about the bottom line.
Once we had wonderful schools but now our schools are falling apart and now the students can not read or write or know how to think for themselves.
Once we could travel all around this great nation and all around the world.
But now we are poked and prodded and tazed and filmed naked and stopped for our papers.
Once we could peacefully protest and petition our government for redress of our grievances.
Now we are forced to buy permits for everything, protest in cages and if we do protest in public...we are happy to only be arrested and not pepper sprayed, shot with rubber bullets or nuked to the point of burning the top layer of our skin (or so they say its "only the top layer"..never mind microwaves cook from the inside-out) or having our hearing destroyed.
Once we had elections we thought we could trust.
Now we still have Diebold even though we KNOW they are easy to rig and that elections were stolen.
Once we were world wide famous for being a kind nation that rushed to help our fellow earthlings during disasters.
Now we are occupiers of lands that sit on oil and are killing the natives that want us out. We have just poured 20 thousand troops into Haiti and taken over the airports and the waters and the government so far. We are turning away ships and doctors and supplies....Does this sound like we are there only to "help"? Will we ever leave now we know Haiti sits on oil?
Once we were a "Nation of Laws"....and now we are a nation ruled by the lawless and to whom the law does not apply.
Once we thought we could buy homes and have our own place but now we know that the government can come in and take anything they like..anytime they want to and for any reason.
Once we had freedom of religion...now we have the far right fundies taking over the air force and running the pentagon and putting bible verses on gun scopes to kill people with and killing doctors and oppressing other people's rights and freedoms.
Once we had to have been at least suspected of breaking the law and a judge had to issue a warrant but only if there was sufficient evidence.
Now all you have to do is "look wrong" and the government can kick your doors down.
Once we had armed forces that we could be proud of...now they are torturing and killing kids and grandparents and blowing up civilians and saying "collateral damage" like they don't matter.
(Thank God some of our troops are still the good guys..but I fear they are being replaced with hired killers)
Once we had a police force that protected and served the community.
Now we have a police force that acts like the mafia and can kill you with a tazer for not moving fast enough or just because they had a bad day or maybe for the terrible crime of crossing a white line.
Once we believed that with hard work and saving we could retire to a peaceful old age. Now we see that will not happen because our retirement funds have been raped and or stolen and social security has been robbed as well..
Once we had the right to a speedy trial...but now we can be "disappeared/renditioned" and no one will know where we go or what happens to us.
Once we had leaders that fought for us. Now we have leaders that sell us out to the highest bidder.
Once we had to be humane to our prisoners. Now the government murders those they don't want to talk to the public or just moves them or tortures them and nothing is done about it.
Once we had hope for a change we could believe in.
Now we have to hope we are not next.
Rest in Peace America.
You were once a beautiful dream for the world. Now you have turned into the World's worst nightmare.
I weep for my nation and for my fellow Americans...as well as for all the people of other nations we have and are still harming.
Hold on America...stop fighting among yourselves because you are going to need each other to survive soon.....because this ride is about to become even bumpier by far this coming fall as we realize that the Great Bush Depression is fully upon us and we have not even hit the bottom yet......with no jobs there is NO recovery..I don't care what they tell us....it's just not possible without jobs.
The health care bill is dead..and that is a good thing because it was a terrible bill and was a sell-out to the insurance companies that caused this mess in the first place......but we still don't have health care for all and people are dying as we wait for Congress to do their damned job.

I believe what is really depressing them is they can not really blame Bush for all this. They may use words saying it's Bush's fault, the republican's fault, and anyone but Obama's fault. But deep down inside they know they control the govt, hollyweird, and the media. They know that their side is failing them but hardly any have the courage to admit it. And they all know in nov they will march like lambs to the slaughter and pull the D lever just the same as always. The best thing that could happen to them is the GOP to take the majority that way in good conscience they can blame the GOP for not getting their free ponies.

Since when did people like you care about the Constitution. You've openly called for the stripping of the vote of Republicans, denial of the right of association and the summary punishment of those that disagree with you.

Maybe the gubmint should stop taxing corporations to death so they can afford to hire and remain here.

Umm, what? Haiti, Bandeh Aceh, Burma? Those ring bells? How do you get ships in with no ports. The facilities at Port-au-Prince were leveled. They no longer exist and must be completely rebuilt.

Sounds like the first part is others exercising their freedom of religion. I don't know a true Christian that agrees with killing doctors either.
