Saturday thread: mud
« on: January 23, 2010, 09:08:48 AM »
Well, here it is, Saturday morning, temperatures in the Sandhills of Nebraska being in the high 30s, slated to go a little higher during the day, and it's slightly raining.

There's a vast sea of mud all over the place, and given the volume of snow that still has to melt, it's going to be muddy for quite some time yet.  Maybe until July or something.

It's the beginning of Barry's Dustbowl for his Economic Depression 2010.

We've had rain pretty much non-stop all week.  We have minor flooding in our backyard, like every year, and an abundance of mud.  Our beagle loves to go out and play in it  :p

We went from not having mud even after it rained, to so much rain for the last 12 months or so, that now we always have mud.

We haven't had rain since yesterday morning, yet the drive, walkways, and patio area still look like it just rained.

All the rain has caused TVA to lower power prices twice in the last year.... :yahoo:

Doing some reports today, and some stuff around the house.

Going to a birthday celebration for Runnin' Buddy's husband tonight. He turns 66 today.....and his momma turns 97! She looks and gets around like she's the one turning 66! The only thing she doesn't do anymore is drive. I hope if I live that long that I am as fortunate as she is!
Just hand over the chocolate...back away slowly...far away....and you won't get hurt....

A balanced diet is chocolate in both hands.

I am very proud of myself today.  I spent the last 3 hours cleaning out my closet.  I have SIX lawn and leaf trashbags filled with clothes that I am dropping off to Dress for Success and St. Vincent de Paul today.  SIX!

I got so crazy I sorted everything by color, and I have so much room.

Supposed to be dreary today, making gumbo tonight.

Sun today!!!! FINALLY! Supposed to maybe break above 40. The last of the dirty snow is almost gone. I know this is only temporary so I'm going out to enjoy it.
I can see November 2 from my house!!!

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

3 this morning.  -5 forecast for tomorrow morning (-15 to -20 in the north country.)

I'm currently watching the level in my tank drop before my eyes...already down to 1/2 a tank, when I had it filled up just four weeks ago.  (For those uninitiated, the oil company NEVER fills it completely--only about 7/8 or so.)

So, at the rate I'm going, I'll need another fill at the end of February.  Figure 200 gallons, and the current cash price is $2.73/gallon, although that might drop a bit with crude prices dropping.  Still, $600 for a fill?

The rain & wind stopped on Thursday. Las Vegas had more rainfall in 4 days then they did in 365 days last year...

It will be in the low 60's. I'm about to open up the windows and put on shorts.

I have to do brunch with friends & family in a little while and then at some point the g/f will stop over. I also need to do laundry....good times!

Outside of town there are places with alot of standing water and muddy sand...it's a mess. I can feel your pain Frank.

Didn't get nearly as cold as forecast last night--only down to about 15.  HTF can they be nearly 20 degrees off?

The tight little outfits worn by the female wait staff in Las Vegas will warm you up!

Anything not involving parkas and whale blubber will warm me up.  The locals will be looking at me like I'm nuts as I walk around in Tommy Bahama gear.
