DUmmies Discuss Dissatisfaction With Chief Justice Roberts
« on: January 22, 2010, 09:19:28 PM »
DUmmy Numbers Bravo, who's either the second most decorated infantryman, or a very dense 11th grade dropout, appears to be somewhat dissatisfied with the performance of Chief Justice Roberts:

I knew Roberts was lying during his confirmation hearings. So did you.
He said he was going to be an "umpire". I played ball for years, and my son starts for his high school team. Neither of us has ever seen an umpire say, "You know what, I don't want to rule on the play that just occured. I want to make a call from a previous game." That's exactly what the Roberts court did by going beyond handing down a narrow decision (which Roberts insisted he would always try to do) on Citizens United, and instead making the huge leap to overturn Austin.
And if I knew what he was going to do, don't anyone dare tell me that the Senators voting didn't know as well. The Democrats who allowed Roberts to be confirmed in the name of "bi-partisanship" ****ING KNEW THAT HE WAS LYING! Yet they allowed this dangerous lackey to assume the highest judicial position in the nation. And I'm as guilty as they are. I have tried to be pragmatic. My thought was, "Shit, he's replacing Rehnquist, how bad can it be?"
I now have my answer.
So that will pretty much do it for me. **** pragmatism and **** incrementalism, at least for the forseeable future.
It will take a while to undo this execrable decision, but in the meantime, **** bi-partisanship! The repugs were never interested in the concept as anything other than a tool to hammer Democrats anyway.
Please, take the House HCR bill, use reconciliation, and shove it up some Republican ass. If they resist, use a damned cattle prod.

on edit: I realize that the HCR bill has nothing to do with the SCOTUS decision. My point is that there is nothing to be gained by trying to work with these assholes.

We're really sorry, DUmmy numbers Bravo, but the curling iron is no longer available.

1. Okay by me.
I would like to see some genuine suffering on their side.

Hope you're happy, DUmmy aquart, because it hurts me to take a deep breath. My sides are sore from laughing so hard this week, I'm really suffering. And your stupid post has made me laugh again. Ouch!

16. It's okay; *NEXT TIME* the Republicans will surely let the Democrats kick the football.

8. Go Get That Chew Toy Bravo!
K&R! I was screaming at the TV during the confirmation, "YOU ****ING LIAR." If anyone in those rooms bought Robert's ****wittage we are truly more screwed then I dared imagine.

DUmmy Binka used to be a more prominent DUmmy, seems to me it was a chick. I cannot recall her claim to fame, but it seems to me it was something pretty funny.

6. He did not go the other way, which IS the point. We all knew he was a far rightwing
prick and a liar. He has proven himself to be exactly that. The writer of the OP isn't placing a bet on a horserace. He or she is stating what happened, and how we all knew where this confirmation would lead us, and yet the DEMS went along with it.
They sold you out again, DUmmy robinlynne.

9. There are NO good Republicans.
They are advocates of fascism. Bipartisanship is always misguided if it includes Republicans.

UPDATE: NRO's Bench Memos presents a series of useful posts about this decision. Ed Whelan anticipates the howls from liberals that Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Alito "have somehow betrayed their confirmation testimony in voting to overrule the Court's holdings on corporate speech in Austin v. Michigan State Chamber of Commerce and McConnell v. FEC."

Emphasizing a point made by Justice Kennedy in his opinion for the Court and by the Chief Justice in his concurrence, Ed argues that "Solicitor General Elena Kagan walked away from the Court's actual rationale in Austin (which rationale had already been undermined by recent precedent) and instead advanced a defense of Austin that. . .would have required the Court to reject, at least in part, one of the central tenets of the landmark 1976 decision in Buckley v. Valeo."

I've been following this a bunch and it is indeed a "narrow" decision. You can see that for yourself viva Powerline and the additional links and legal opinions they link too. They have been on top of this since the start and it is a "small victory". But I'll take every victory we can get that holds onto our basic freedoms in any way possible for the next three years.
"When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion - when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing - when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors - when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don't protect you against them, but protect them against you - when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice - you may know that your society is doomed."

There's so many threads on this at the DUmp. Instead of adding to the discussion, they have to start a new one. They do the same thing to every hot topic. With so many threads on the same subject, it's hard for us to make fun of them without having a bunch of links.

Their vanity and ego's are off the charts.
Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.
