Been Fun Voting ... Been Fun Caring ... Been Fun Trying To Help Those Who Need It...

no point in it now. The SCOTUS ruling today made it impossible to have an impact (and impossible for me to care anymore).

I'm out. I will live Liberally and try to help those close. Can't fight against Walmart though. Don't have the resources or the heart.

To the people I touch now and in the future, I'll do my best.

To the people who need Progressive help. I am sorry. You probably won't see it.

I love you anyway and if I can help you personally, I will.

No point in paying much attention or certainly voting after today though. My vote will never count again.

Peace.
:sosad:

It is just too funny on the island.
I almost feel bad watching their overwrought angst with such joy...almost. :-)

23. It's not about not caring- it's about being realistic.
I KNOW Matcom cares and has for years.
I also know that he is seeing the move by the scotus today
with a clear eye and mind.

Basically, the corporations will now determine WHO runs for office.
That is the most important aspect. The WHO runs for office factor.

Either way, either party, all branches of government will now openly
do their bidding and no longer have any constraints, regulations
or legislative oversight and the corporatist will do what ever the hell they want.

What good is a vote when the outcome is already decided no matter who wins.

So frustrating.

9. It hasn't sunk in yet--I've been busy today. But I have a nasty feeling that eventually it will...
Edited on Thu Jan-21-10 07:39 PM by Hekate
... rip my guts out. Like you.

Edited to add: I've always voted. Always will. But will my heart ever be in it again?

Locally, I still serve. I'm still a local official, where I think I can have some kind of small impact on people's lives. But my country, my nation, my sense of being an American citizen... I'm literally now.

10. Certainly I don't know why individuals would give to campaigns anymore.
How could our paltry help compare with the gazillions that the Corporations will be allowed to give? It's disgraceful.

The way you idiots describe your finances a paper boy could donate more anyways.

14. Hey matcom, I understand. I feel just like you do except for one thing ......
.... I'll continue to vote and to let me voice be heard, even as it is as effective as a fart in a windstorm and as fun as pissing into the wind.

I'm feeling lower than whale shit these days. But I'll do what I do just to make it clear to the rat****ers that I'm not dead yet.

Try working on getting sparklys respect first.

As you well know, it sucks to be living during the Decline and Fall.

Worse, it sucks to be living, voting, and especially caring when the Decline and fall was so brilliantly thought out, planned, and executed by people who put the Nazis to shame with their ability to manipulate situations, people, and the system with subtlety and plenty of Plausible Deniability.

Finally, it sucks to be living in such a time when the progress made in the science of manipulation of people is a hundred, a thousand fold of what it was to tyrants in the past.

You and I have been around this ol' DU pretty much since the beginning. I arrived here in late March 2001 and I am pretty sure you were either here already or soon after that.

We caught the last act of the Old Republic, guy. But in the Tragedy of the Fall of the American Republic, the last act is always the most...tragic.

Bad news for us, but not as bad for the poor bastards alive 50 or 100 years from now.

What will it look like? As to specific details, I couldn't venture a guess, but the trends are immutable, huge, and lit like neon arrows to hell.

We were spolied rotten, in that we got to live the first parts of our lives during the post-WWII America, which I am coming more to understand was really not much more than "We have to give the Plebs lots of stuff so they won't start thinking the Russkies have it better."

Was it EVER real? This Modern Americcca erases old memories so fast, I am not so sure anymore.

I understand what you mean, empathize, and agree. I also realize the only "revolution" that the American Subject Populace will likely ever be capable of is one modeled after the 1933 German "Revolution", but with better PR and marketing strategies.

If it sucks to be living so much...

All this drama because the SCOTUS ruled that corporations and labor unions could give as much as they want to any campaign????

 :mental: :mental: :mental: :mental:

Seriously? You people want to expend your mental anguish on something? Try the people of Haiti. Or the fetuses that are aborted every day. Or the brave men and women who are valiantly serving on the front lines in the Middle East to make sure you have the freedom to whine like this.

Cry me a ****ing river, asshats. There are worse things in life. Get over yourselves.  :redbird:

The Little Goons are all a-twitter because now the 527 is meaningless.  No longer will a wealthy socialist/commie slug like Soros have the advantage.  Now real people with real tangible interest in the promotion of capitalism and a strong US of A can use their metaphorical voices and be heard above the constant liberal engine noise.

Go out on a semi-high, DUmmies. I'm sure there's an ashram/commune/YMCA somewhere with your name written on it.
There is no virtue in compulsory government charity, and there is no virtue in advocating it. A politician who portrays himself as caring and sensitive because he wants to expand the government's charitable programs is merely saying that he is willing to do good with other people's money. Well, who isn't? And a voter who takes pride in supporting such programs is telling us that he will do good with his own money— if a gun is held to his head.

Notice it's all about corporate money being spent and not union.  Have yet to see a thread complaining about how the unions now have the right to spend their money to promote the Dems, just how the corps can use their money.  Hypocrites.

I see matcom is still the same fascist he's always been.  And tom_paine is so out of sorts he never once typed "Bushevic."

I haven't seen any DUmmies calling for an end to campaign donations, and just having all elections funded by tax dollars yet.

It's TRAGIC that a candidate can answer a Sunday editorial in the NYT with a Monday ad now. Just tragic!

The NY Times can still decide where to put the ad or even whether to sell it I bet.

I was listening to ABC news at the top of the hour while driving home and some idiot liberal female said Obama never accepted special interest money and was proud of it!

I damn near drove into the ditch! I guess in a liberal's mind, Soros, MoveOn, and the SEIU are just another non-profit!

Un-****ing-believable!

All it does is allow a corporation to pay for advertising, and they have to disclose who they are!  Such as:  "This ad paid for by GE.  We bring good things to light."   Drama queens, and despicable ones at that.  Do they know that in Haiti, they had to resort to just vodka as anesthetic for amputations?  Count your blessings you idiotic goons.  Life just isn't that bad.

Geez, the bathos from that place is just overwhelming - it smells as bad as a gaggle of unwashed hippies wearing several gallons of patchouli to cover up the BO and the pot-smoke.
