no jobs, war, voluntary army?
There are not a lot of jobs, the government publicizes war all the the time and the army is voluntary and hiring. Should a democracy ,particularly one with wide global interest have a volunteer army? A drafted army means the sons of people in power might get killed or sent off too some little understood war. a drafted army creates more scrutiny, more accountability, less blanket support of the support our troops slogan. We all support the troops, they are doing their job. That does not mean we have to be taken in by this to the point of no investigation.

the usual crap about drafts, poor people, Bush, etc...until this:

5. I think requiring 2 years of national service would be a good idea
Those "drafted" would not be required to fill combat roles unless they volunteered...it could help out with all those other missions that we've contracted out to corporations, like record-keeping, maintenance and a bunch of other things.

Funny thing that.  When we actually had the draft, it was more often than not the sons of the poor and disenfranchised that got shanghaied into fighting for the rich man - just like getting off juries today, the wealthy had a lot more means at their disposal to avoid (some might say "evade") the draft - and most of them were made heavy use of by the erstwhile liberals of yesteryear, even up until the Carter disaster years

Actually the Army is starting to get picky about their hiring right now.  They've reached their retention limit for the entire fiscal year already.

And besides the lat thing I want is some DUmmie window licker in a foxhole beside me.

Hell the democrat party was born exclusively for the purpose of protecting slavery.

I been thinking about that myself what with Black History month coming right up.  Seems MLK might have been a Republican. Maybe a lte to celebrate the long lost history of Blacks in the Republican Party aka Party of Lincoln.

How many big books and documentaries and major films have been made about the blacks who served in Congress during Reconstruction?? I bet they barely get a passing mention in the history books these days.

I imagine that in a recession, the only employer with the absolute luxury of choice is the military.

This is what I have heard, that MLK was a Republican. Maybe that's why I didn't hear one iota about him yesterday from one single liberal.

I didn't hear the usual (phony) fawning over MLK yesterday that I normally hear.  Looks like Reverend King has been knocked off his pedestal by the coming of Teh Messiah.
