A cupcake question.

On average how many cupcakes does a standard cake recipe make?

I've found I rather like making cakes, although I'm not much of a cake eater. I'm thinking if I make cupcakes they will easier to hand out to friends and family.

1. If I'm not mistaken, they tell you on the back of the box. I haven't seen one in a long time but it seems to me they gave pan sizes including cupcakes.

3. I've mainly been using from scratch recipes.

Mostly from The Mixer Bible, I'm kinda new at this.

But thanks, it gives me some idea.

4. Sorry. I misread your OP this morning.

I thought you had asked about a standard cake mix.

5. I'd count on a dozen cupcakes from each 9 inch layer but the way to know for sure is to half fill the cake pan and then transfer the water into cupcake tins, half filling each, and just counting them out.

You're also going to need to alter baking time, but you knew that already, right?

6. Didn't really know, but suspected it.

I'm going to guess a little less time.

You know, given the unimaginative mentality of the cooking and baking primitives, I suspect that if a primitive has a 9- or 12-slot cupcake pan, he thinks he needs to use all 9 or 12 slots.

It wouldn't occur to the primitive that he can use only 6 or 8 or 10 of those slots.

The primitive mind-set is remarkably rigid, like that of a robot.

fuzzy logic?

Not so much "fuzzy logic," but more so unimaginative, uncreative, unadaptable minds.

fuzzy logic?

If it's fuzzy, it's only because of all the mold growing on it.  That's what happens when you leave shit in a cool, dark, damp confined space - like a DUmmy head - for too long.

I wonder what happens if they only have a muffin pan.

I wonder what happens if they only have a muffin pan.

Then they won't make cupcakes, only muffins.

A persistent chronic whine of the cooking and baking primitives is their lack of storage space for all of their cooking implements.

It never occurs to the primitives that one thing can have more than one use, thus cutting down on the need to have, and store, things.

Well, I'm sure it doesn't occur to the primitives that basting a turkey can be done using a simple table spoon (either size) gotten out of the silverware drawer; one doesn't need a special tool for it.

And again, given the primitive mind-set, if a primitive has a turkey baster, he won't think to use it to baste a chicken or a duck or a goose or a ham; noooooooo--one has to have a special chicken baster, a special duck baster, a special goose baster, a special ham baster, and daren't use the turkey baster.

You can make corn bread in almost any pan.

You and I can do that, sir, along with all other decent and civilized people.

But the primitives could do it only with a corn bread pan.

Someone could do a brisk business selling pans to DUmmies. "They might look the same, Pam, but this one is just for corn bread, that one is for stuffing, that one for ham hocks......"

AND...for NOT needing a taxpayer funded bureaucratic government program that would breast feed her through the process - of baking - cupcakes - by herself....in her own kitchen!
A brand new experience for a DUmmy.

A pre-sliced cornbread pan...

Or you can get one that makes little corcob-shaped loaves.

That's the kind of thing my sister would buy.  Because slicing your cornbread into smaller pieces is just too time consuming.

Reminds me of the last time I shopped at Target.

If you see Alton Brown using something fancy or expensive, he probably got it from King Arthur Flour.  That's what Good Eats reminds me of.
