 I have heard that CA has enough sigs to get it on the ballot.

What are the chnces that it could actually PASS? It seems like a no-brainer, but CA can really come out very conservative sometimes too...Look at the whole Prop 8 debacle.

Just wondering if anyone knows what things look like on that front, is there much resistance yet ...or is the MSM basically ignoring the movement because it's just a 'bunch of hippies'....?

What's really interesting is the financial angle and how taxation of a commodity in the face of a state in virtual bankruptcy may bethe thing that actually pushes this through!

2. Budget woes make it more likely than before, but still a long shot IMO
 Based on only subjective feel rather than data on this issue, the big problem I see is that voters especially in off years trend older than the population, and support for legalization is less likely to be strong in the older groups. The other issue is that the outraged-morality-mouthpieces have more money and an easier marketing job than the rational defenders. emotion tends to trump intellect with low-info voters, who sadly remain in the majority.

FEEEEEL not fact.  :whatever:

You wanna smoke weed ?  Stay home and do it.  Problem is you won't.  You'll get out in a car and kill innocent people.  FACT.

3. I believe CA is voting tomorrow for opt-in legalization.
 Not sure if it will take, but CA will be the first state to legalize.

Followed soon by CO and the rest of the blue western states.

Here in Colorado our state senate is currently trying to restrict and over-regulate (IMO) the MMJ industry, and failing nearly every time. MMJ is 100% legal and constitutional, something the politicians just don't seem to understand.

Explains a lot. My toe hurts.  I need reefer.

I'm just soooo tired of having to "look" for herb...it would be soooo much better if one could just go to the corner store...

Looking for herb beats looking for a job anyday.  Oh wait, that is their job. Imagine a world where weed is sold at the corner store. Would you let your kid go there alone ?

 I never did.

The efforts today are different. Propaganda still exists, but for the first time in my adult life most of the citizenry and a significan portion of the authority don't buy it.

We're really on the verge this time.

Too bad it is a FEDERAL law that makes it illegal.
Do whatever you want in the land of nuts and fruits, it will STILL be illegal as long as the FEDERAL government says so.

I can't believe that loser is whining about Colorado's laws.  They're the most lax in the US.  I have a friend who gets medicinal MJ for anxiety.  She does get it from a "corner store," the dispensary. The dispensary's two rules:  You can't go more than once an hour, and you can't buy more than .25 oz per day.  Oh, the "restrictions" are just killing them, I'm sure!

Exactly. No matter what the moonbats who run the blue peoples' republics do, anyone who distributes, sells, possesses, or uses
marijuana is a federal criminal. Testing positive for weed will still get them fired. And it should.

I don't get it. All you need to do in Cali is to go see a pot doc and get a medical certificate that lets you in the door of the dispensary. There are dispensaries all over the state. How much more legal is it supposed to get?

And yeah, it's a federal law that dope is illegal. So? It's a federal law that you have to be a citizen to run for president. Where's Oceander? He could tell us if it's the A.G's office or whoever that will give this the "green" light. They sure haven't tried to stop this from happening so far.

Does anybody else the parallels to the Nullification movement of the 1830's?

How funny would it be if they do legalize it, but your corner store won't let you use food stamps to buy it. The DUmmies will be outraged.

I've long been an advocate of Socialists shootin' diesel. In fact, I've been able to talk a few into trying it. Talk about schadenfreude...

The first step to legalize marijuana in California could happen Tuesday.

Lawmakers will vote on Assembly Bill 390 -- legislation to tax and regulate marijuana. The assembly's Public Safety Committee is expected to vote after a hearing that begins at 9 a.m. hearing in Sacramento.

The bill, authored by San Francisco Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, would essentially treat pot the same way alcohol is treated under the law and would allow adults over 21 to possess, smoke and grow marijuana.

The law would also call for a fee of $50 per ounce sold and would help fund drug eradication and awareness programs. It could help  pull California out of debt, supporters say, raising up to $990 million from the fees.

I don't follow California politics, but I'd be rather surprised if something like this hadn't been offered up every year for the past couple of decades by that district's rep.

I think the federal law should be stricken and have it delegated back to the states--where I would oppose it in my state--but I would re-write the fed law to account for people trying to import into prohibited states and disallow foreign importation.

I would tend to go along with that, subject to working out the details.  Along the lines of alcohol.

I much prefer the law the way it is today. DUmmies continually telling one another that illegal drug use is no big deal, then getting fired or going to prison for it. Today, by definition, only criminals are in the drug culture, and very often are killed by it. Dead druggies are a good thing. Legalized marijuana would introduce at least a few decent people into that same culture.
