Media Bias?

We know that the AP has been Pro-0Bama for the most part, but This seems deliberately misleading about Ford.

Chrysler, Ford report double-digit drops for 2009
DETROIT – Automakers are glad to see the end of 2009, the worst year for U.S. sales in nearly 30 years.
Ford and Chrysler both saw sharp declines, but each claimed to have momentum going into this year.
Chrysler Group LLC posted its worst sales in 47 years, selling just over 931,000 cars and trucks. It was the first time sales dropped below 1 million since 1962.
But its December sales rose 36 percent over November, a sign of slow and steady progress under the company's new Italian management. And compared with December of 2008, monthly sales slipped just 4 percent, a far smaller drop than the double-digit declines seen for most of the year.
Ford Motor Co. said full-year sales declined 15 percent, but the company said it posted its first full-year gain in U.S. market share since 1995. It also reported a 33 percent increase in December sales thanks to strong demand for midsize cars like the Ford Fusion, whose sales rose 83 percent. The Ford Escape crossover, meanwhile, rose 75 percent.

Ford, Nissan Beat Estimates With U.S. Sales Gains (Update2)
(Adds Ford’s annual market share in fifth paragraph.)

Jan. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Ford Motor Co. and Nissan Motor Co. posted U.S. sales gains in December that beat analysts’ estimates as the industry showed signs of stabilizing after the worst year in almost three decades.
Ford’s deliveries jumped 33 percent to 184,655, the Dearborn, Michigan-based company said today in a statement. Nissan’s sales rose 18 percent to 73,404. Chrysler Group LLC said sales fell 3.7 percent to 86,523.
“People are waking up and realizing the world didn’t end and are starting to return to showrooms,” said Aaron Bragman, a forecaster at IHS Global Insight in Troy, Michigan. “It’s way too early to say the trend is pointing north, but if it continues this quarter, it’s a positive sign.”
An industrywide increase for December would cap automakers’ first quarterly improvement since the last three months of 2006, after October and November totals were little changed. The recession and bankruptcies at the predecessors of General Motors Co. and Chrysler ravaged 2009 sales.

Auto sales: Good end to terrible year
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The auto industry ended its worst year in memory with its best month of the year, according to early sales results from several major automakers.

Ford Motor's U.S. sales in December soared 34% from a year-ago and more than 50% compared to November. Rival Chrysler Group reported that its sales fell 4% from a year-ago, but that was a jump of 36% from November.

Japanese automaker Nissan said sales were up 18% from a year ago and 30% from November. All three companies reported December sales that were better than forecasts from sales tracker Edmunds.com.

Analysts expect that industrywide sales will exceed 1 million vehicles in December, the only time in 2009 it topped that mark other than in August. The government's Cash for Clunkers program caused a spike in sales that month.

Still, it's going to be a down year for the industry. Despite expectations of a strong December for many of the automakers, full-year industrywide sales are likely to be down more than 20%.
CNNMoney

Is it just me or does the AP picture make things look worse for Ford?  I would say gaining market share in a bad economy is a big plus for any company.

GM sales figures hadn't been released when I posted this. They were released later on.

General Motors hopes to start 2010 better than it finished the 2009. Numbers released on January 5th showed December 2009 sales for GM were down 10 percent compared to the year before.

GM sales were also down 33 percent for the entire year. That's the worst decline in decades.

Most articles I had read cite a lack of confidence in the government owned GM brand.
