DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano said that the thwarting of the attempt to blow up the Amsterdam-Detroit flight this week demonstrated that "the system worked."

Asked by CNN's Candy Crowley on "State of the Union" how that could be possible when the young Nigerian who sought to set off the bomb was able to smuggle explosive liquid onto the flight, Napolitano responded: "We're asking the same questions."

Napolitano added that there was "no suggestion that [the bomber] was improperly screened."

Then if he wasn't improperly screened what you consider proper is inadequate. Especially in light of the fact the would-be bomber's name is on a terror watchlist and he never should have been issued a visa:

I spotted it on American Thinker. Must be a busy AM at NewsBusters, as they didn't have anything on it when I just looked. Lots of other stuff, though.

The only thing that worked was the perp packed an explosive in his pants and successfully set it off inside the aircraft as it was preparing for landing.

THAT is the essence of the issue. Yes, the explosive device failed, but that doesnt alter the basic fact.

Had the explosive worked as it was supposed to have, they would still be cleaning up the mess on the ground and carting off the human remains.
