Gunman holds hostages in Wytheville, VA Post Office
« on: December 23, 2009, 03:57:09 PM »

According to police on the scene, the man had five hostages and five pounds of C-4, a common plastic explosive, strapped to his wheelchair. Officers on the scene were encouraging the man to contact a hostage negotiator through 911.

Postal worker Walt Korndorfer said there was at least one hostage in the builiding. Supervisor Margie Austin, he said, was unaccounted for. The post master, he said, was out of the building when the shooting started.

Town police had blocked off a three-block square perimeter as officers outside the post office crouched behind vehicles, rifles at the ready. Police were working with the fire department and other agencies to evacuate Main Street just before 3 p.m. By quarter till four, a bomb squad had arrived and Virginia State Police had a helicopter in the air, circling downtown Wytheville. 911 operators around 3:45 p.m. advised employees at nearby businesses to get out of the buildings surrounding the post office.

A customer who was leaving the post office as the gunman entered, said he was in a wheelchair and driving a red truck with Marine Corps stickers. She reported that he had fired at police and had hand grenades. A sheriff’s office employee confirmed that there were grenades on the man’s truck.

The info about the suspect is sure to set the DUmmies off.   :thatsright:

Hoping everything comes out all right.

More to the point, it seems almost custom-made to set the DUmmies in Department of Homeland Security Ministry of Øbamareich Security off on another "right-wing terrorist" witch hunt.

Watching with interest to see how this develops.

Paralyzed (possible) Vet, 2 days before the most stressful holiday of the year?  If the DHS tries to slap this with Terrorism, I doubt it'll go well.  It really sounds to me like someone who may have just seen a bit to much, and finally snapped.

But it's way to early to tell yet, so I'm just gonna keep to the best wishes.

Of course this will be labelled as "terrorism" by Zero-bama and the MSM; Maj. Hasan, of course, was not a "terrorist." ;)

The guy isn't giving his name yet, but has spoken to negotiators.  One source said that he only had one leg, but said nothing about being paralyzed .

I think they may have shot themselves in the foot...

If they label this guy a terrorist, and not HAsan... and effectively, NOT the 9/11 terrorists (criminals, effectively), would they not be contradicting themselves?

Ahhh, but see; Hasan was just a poor beleagered soldier, suffering from the effects of pre-emptive PTSD by proxy.

This guy is obviously a right wing radical, who lost his leg training for this act of terrorism in an extremist, racist militia group.

One would think that even a racist, Øbama-hating knuckle dragger such as yourself would be able to pick up on these differences.[/MOT&S doublespeak mode]

The Democrat Party is a contradiction in terms right now; I doubt if one more contradiction really makes a difference.

I live in Wytheville, about 5 miles from the PO, and I work for the USPS at Dublin....
However, I do have a cousin that is a carrier at Wytheville, I heard she is OK....
My brother is helping the Wythe County Sheriff's Dept., dispatching and helping coordinate the police units....
Rumor has it this guy is armed and supposedly carrying about 5 pounds of C-4....
Hopefully, this guy will do the honorable thing and take himself out without harming innocent people....

I hate to say this but it could be anything that drove the guy over the edge but I wouldn't rule out the current healthcare debacle as the reason.

It looks like it's over.  Around 11:00 pm Eastern, three hostages came out, followed by the gunman at around 11:20.  That's when the Roanoke NBC affiliate broke in with footage of the police having a man and his wheelchair on the ground searching him and the building.  Looks like no one was hurt, thank God!

Let's see how the idiot media and related dim mouthpieces spin this in the morning....   :banghead:

P.S.  Thanks to all who prayed for a quick and safe ending to this....

But if by any chance that is the case, you know the Ministry of Troof an' Shit will keep it to themselves.  It's just about the only way you can get them to be tight-lipped about anything: make 'em think it'll show the ReichsMessiah in a less than heavenly light.

An AP article:

Quote
Va. standoff suspect was angry at the federal government

*snip*
Federal officials said Taylor was angry at the federal government and told them he had planned the standoff for months or years.
*snip*
"He was really down on the government," Oliver told the Associated Press on Thursday in an interview at his mother's floral shop. "About the government taking over the right to bear arms ... he was angry at the government over taxing us."
*snip*
Oliver said the man told the hostages his son had died in Afghanistan two months ago, though that could not be immediately confirmed. He also said he was dodging attempts to repossess his red pickup.
