Put away the cricket bat - zombie warning was a hoax
« on: December 22, 2009, 01:18:11 PM »

Quote
Could be all those juicy brains in a college town, but Gainesville seems to have a high degree of zombie awareness.

In the fall, a manager for the University of Florida's e-Learning Web site posted a disaster preparedness plan in case of zombie attack. The elaborate plan -- with footnotes and official-looking forms -- was meant as a fun way to reduce stress in the office and encourage thinking about how to handle a campus closure.

On Monday morning, drivers on West University Avenue might have thought the zombie plan had been put into effect. A Florida Department of Transportation traffic sign carried the warning: "ZOMBIE ATTACK!! EVACUATE."

It was a hoax. Someone had hacked the message on the sign, either by telephone or working directly at the sign itself, FDOT spokeswoman Gina Busscher said. ...
Keep calm and carry on.

"We will preserve for our children (America), the last best hope of man on earth, or we will sentence them to take the first step into a thousand years of darkness. If we fail, at least let our children and our children's children say of us we justified our brief moment here. We did all that could be done."  -- Ronald Reagan.

"Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. You can't expect to wield supreme executive power just because some watery tart threw a sword at you." -- Quest for the Holy Grail
