Most Annoying Chistmas Carol (poll)
« on: December 15, 2009, 09:14:34 PM »
Yes folks, it's that time of year again, when hundreds of millions of sane, well-adjusted people might discuss or participate in polls of what they're favorite Christmas carols are.

Not so in the land of the miserable, the maladjusted, and the misanthropic. At DU, the competition is to see who can hate the most, and usually over the most inconsequential of things.

heard it.

I get the feeling they don't like The Little Drummer Boy.

3. All of them. EVERY SINGLE ONE.
I hate this silly season and cannot wait for it to disappear, until October of next year.

I'll bet this guy's a real blast to be around. I'll also bet his feet are parked under someone's table on 12/25, as he slurps up turkey and giblet gravy and takes advantage of their kind Christmas spirit.

67. I pretty much puke whenever they play "Away in the Manger."
The lyrics suck, in particular. The melody sucks as well.

Okay now, I've always thought of Away In A Manger as a children's song. It takes a special kind of rectum, a DU rectum, to hate that.

I suppose there would be no point in pointing out to DU folk that "Carol of the Bells" is designed so that human voices are used to sound almost bell-like. Don't like "Adeste Fidelis"//"Oh Come All Ye Faithful"? Don't listen, don't come. Sheesh! The character who dislikes "Away In A Manger" didn't specify which of the common melodies aroused his/her ire; it's written simply, for children to be able to sing and understand ... not useful for an adult (?) who doesn't care to understand.

Actually, some of the choices in the poll are pretty annoying. But I like the traditional Christmas carols even though I don't celebrate the holiday. DUmmies being DUmmies, as usual.

"Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" just doesn't tickle my funnybone like it used to.  This poll is crap, but I'll cast my vote for Rudolph this time.

There are three Christmas songs I don't like, none of them are on the list - probably because they are all modern and really aren't carols.

Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time
I think its the synthetic organ-like noise throughout the song that wrecks it.

Last Christmas
I don't know if its credited to Wham! or George Michael, but its just awful.

Christmas Shoes
A Christmas song shouldn't be wrist-slitting depressing.

"Christmas Shoes." Hands down.

Let nothing frighten you.

God never changes.
Patience attains all that it strives for.

God alone suffices.

The Little Drummer Boy holds special childhood memories for me, as a tiny girl listening to it while being with my dad in his workshop.  So I cannot share the DUmmies' loathing.  I have the good fortune to having never heard the Shoes song.  I concur with Last Christmas.  My husband heard it the other day and it pissed him off.  How about ones you especially love?
Last year, there was medley that was popular, by the guy from Bare Naked Ladies and some chick.  It started off with God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, I think.  I loved that song.  Beautiful.

I can get tired of some of the secular Christmas songs, but I never tire of good Christmas hymns.  Apparently the dump dislikes a couple of my favorites, "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" and "Away In A Manger"    "Silent Night" is another good one.  My mother used to sing it beautifully.   Thanks, for bringing up a very pleasant memory of my mother, DUmp.   Does it kill you that you accidently spread a little joy?

The only time Christmas music irritates me is when some "artist" takes a classic and mangles it into something almost unrecognizeable.

My all time favorite, is "O holy night" sung by Colin Raye...AWESOME.

Oh, and the Barlow girls have a great version of "Carol of the Bells" out this year.

Personally I like most more than not.  S'pose it was all those years in choir, when we could sing them and not worry about offending anyone.  We sang Hallelujah Chorus.  In public school.  Man.
