Tiger Woods to take indefinite leave from professional golf
« on: December 11, 2009, 06:29:49 PM »

Tiger Woods said Friday he is taking an indefinite leave from golf to work on saving his marriage, using the word "infidelity" for the first time in a statement posted on his Web site.

"After much soul searching, I have decided to take an indefinite break from professional golf," Woods said. "I need to focus my attention on being a better husband, father, and person."

The announcement came two weeks after a car accident that set in motion a shocking downfall for the world's No. 1 player, which has included sordid allegations of numerous extramarital affairs. One woman even shared a voicemail she said Woods left her two nights before his Nov. 27 accident.

Woods has not been seen in public since the accident.

"I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children," Woods said. "I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness. It may not be possible to repair the damage I've done, but I want to do my best to try."

How long Woods will stay away from golf was unclear.

I'll bet he stays away from golf longer than he stays away from "other" women.

The media STILL won't report on Climate Gate, but Tiger is the opening story every day.

He'll be back for The Masters.

Tiger isn't going to get Elin to forgive him, he's wasting his time. She'd be a fool to take him back. One or two "misdeeds" would be a totally different thing. However, a 3 yr mistress and multiple "strange"? He's got issues to resolve and she just needs to get out.

I think he's doing all of this to try to keep as many of his endorsements as he can and the season is almost over with anyhow....not a big sacrifice. He's also trying to avoid getting questioned by the media....which is going to be all over him like white on rice until he gets out there and faces the vultures. Tiger needs to man up, get it over with....and realize he's going to lose his family...and get back to reality...

Besides...the media needs to be paying attention to what is going on with the real world....not who Tiger Woods is/isn't/has/didn't boink(ing).... ::)
Just hand over the chocolate...back away slowly...far away....and you won't get hurt....

A balanced diet is chocolate in both hands.

A lot of celebrity news popping up just as major news events such as Climate Gate. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but the coincidences are getting hard to believe.

I didn't know if television news was focusing on celebs like I see internet headlines or not.

If this couple can salvage their marriage, good for them.  I wouldn't even bother with the dude.  He'd be toast.

Bread and circuses, Mr. Mannn; that's all it is.  I'm surprised that you expect any different from Big Brøtha's Ministry of Troof an' shit.

To me this whole Tiger thing is just as bad as when Michael Jackson died and we are going to be hearing about it for a while to come :mental:

Tiger is just another dumbass who let his dick get him in trouble.  Whatever happens to him, he's earned it.  I won't say he 'deserves' it, but whatever happens to him now, he owns it.

Keep it in your pants, you dumbass.

I've been listening to sports talk a lot the past few days.  There is a lot of fear about a Tiger Woods prolonged absence from the PGA tour.  He has been the golden goose over the last 13+ years on tour.  The money that the run-of-the-mill guy makes now is 5-10 times what it was in the mid-late 90's.  Most of the tour's tournament sponsorship agreements are over after 2010.

I'll be very curious to see when he actually returns to competitive golf.  Masters or later I would guess.  It's funny how people have always wondered what might keep Tiger from breaking Nicklaus' record of 18 major championships...I'm not sure this scenario was ever on the radar.

I'm not going to claim a lot of knowledge about the business end of professional golf, but I do remember what the PGA was like in the mid-90's before Tiger Woods.  It was a pretty un-interesting affair that hadn't changed much in the previous decade.  I don't think it had the sponsorship it has now... it was mostly car companies and other high-end products that could be advertised on television.  Now, it drinks, clothes, equipment, shoes, and everything else the marketers can think to throw at it.

I was just thinking the same thing. It's not professional golf that's the problem, but professional women.

I wonder if much of this is nothing more than a publicity stunt. Because of the potential impact to the PGA, I can see this earning him a shitload of money. And has already earned him "street cred" with some of the black commendators I've heard on the radio complaining tha marrying a white woman is racist and a slap to black women everywhere.

Stupider things have happened, I guess.

My son's here in my office watching the tv....and they were just talking about Tiger and Mark Sanford (gov of SC).....he says....."awful lot of infidelity going around these days....don't these guys know how to be faithful?" This from a 28 yo.

Tiger is a very gifted golfer, but it's GOLF for God's sake.  I would rather watch paint dry.  Drying paint is actually MORE interesting, because at least something has changed when it's over.
